It's a big blow to the team to lose Couturier with what appears to be a serious left MCL sprain. We have a lot of depth on this team right now, but this is one of the 4 or 5 guys we would absolutely not want to lose because there is no replacement for him. Perhaps Schenn will play center now, it's tough to say. Either way, we did stick together well and close the game out pretty decently without him. Mase was good, but I don't think he even needed to be great because we mostly played solid team defense in front of him.

Really nice to see Weise get his first. Maybe now he can relax and just play his game.

Big challenge tonight against a team that dominated us in Philly and without Couturier this time around. No excuses though. They don't have Stamkos and you don't see them feeling sorry for themselves.

Also, who starts? Do you give Stolarz his first shot against a top quality team on the road or trust that Mase can come back strong on back to back nights?

I would've thought they start Stolarz tonight. 3 games in 4 nights is a lot to ask, then you add in the fact that Friday's game is at 1pm. They haven't said anything yet though, so maybe they do go with Mason here. Wouldn't make sense to start Stolarz at home against the Rags and make Mase play back to back. So maybe Mase gets all 3? Seems like an odd choice, but maybe that's what Mase wants? I could maybe see wanting to start Stolarz off at home, but that's almost more pressure to me.

I would like to see Schenn at 2C i think. I think as far as scoring potential goes, he's a better fit at 2C than Coots is. That being said, I think having Coots out there allowed Jake/Konecny to really get after it offensively.

Couts on IR and Laughton brought up.

Have to think they plan on using Laughton as a C then. Just slide Cousins up and slot Laughton at 4C.

Fucking game pissed me off yesterday Mason seemed very upset too. Just too many breakdowns coming from everyone. Hopefully they get straightened out soon. Although I do admit that the bolts are very good. One slip and they score....

It's the same again today. I love how we're playing this afternoon and yet we trail by three goals and have yet to even net one. The Rangers are too fucking deep/efficient and Lundqvist makes tough saves look easy.

This is a close game and we've played well and yet it's starting to look like a blowout on the scoreboard. So fucking disheartening. It was worth seeing Konecny destroy Pirri anyway, but this should really be a closer game.

Pull the goalie here right at the three minute mark after this commercial and have G win the draw. No way we can score two more goals unless we get started a little early with the extra man.

What can you say? We did everything in that last three minutes except tie it. I'd like to see a little bit more of that second effort and desperation earlier on in the game.

A lot of our guys are playing really well. I'll mention Voracek, Read, Raffl, PEB, Weise, Simmonds, Konecny and Provorov to name just a few.

Furthermore, Read is playing so well that Vegas will probably take him in the expansion draft. Who in their right mind would've thought that last season? We were begging them to take him at that stage.

Provorov really looks like an absolute stud now after netting his first Nhl goal. Confidence is something else.

I'll try this again. Maybe Streit deserves a seat after the dreadful turnover that directly led to the third goal against. Otherwise, this game may have gone to OT. He's way better than that. Can't have a veteran making such a bonehead play.

We may need to see Schenn at second line center here. Maybe it will wake him up and Cousins is perhaps just not good enough for that role, even in the short term. We have any number of guys that can slot in on the wing of the top line, Raffl included.

I may have to rock my Penn State emblem from here on out. I've been a fan for 20+ years and this is the most competitive we've been in seemingly ages.

If PSU posts their 9th straight win next Saturday night in the Big Ten Championship game after having already beaten OSU and yet somehow doesn't make the playoffs, that will be some kind of shit.

i'm mostly only on during the work day. i never fire up a computer outside of work (and school work) and i don't like posting from my phone or ipad.

team is definitely floating around mediocrity. 23rd in the league in points/game. as we all know, they need to prevent goals better. I think they are still adjusting to the defense they have. They play very quickly and very aggressively. They need the forwards to cover for them better. Multiple times last night there were odd man rushes because a dman pinched and the forward either didn't rotate back, or did a poor job of it. It makes sense to me to keep deploying dman how they're doing it, because they get a lot of zone time and are outshooting just about everyone. That's a good recipe, but they need to do a better job rotating back. They're too susceptible to the stretch pass and it kills them at least once per game.

also i agree with you on streit. he's out 7th best dman from my estimations this year. everyoen points to AMac, i don't think he's been that terrible. He's extremely slow to release his shot though which irritates me. But Streit is a total liability out there. Also, after last night's performance, i don't know how you could even consider sitting Lyubimov. He was good when he was playing earlier in the season, and last night was the best game he's played all season. He deserves to be in the lineup. Weise on the other hand, does not. He's useless out there. Chris "Stone-hands" Vandevelde is a better scoring threat than Weise. I don't love Vandevelde out there, but right now he's producing.

Lastly, Provorov looks fantastic. The Provorov/Gudas pairing might be a legit NHL first pair. I hope Hak keeps them together.

Also, i thought Stolarz looked really good after the first goal he allowed. It's like all the nerves he had just melted away after giving up a soft one.

He looked very quick and I was shocked at how good he seemed to be playing the puck. Being 6'6 gave him a big advantage in locating the puck too. You could see him looking over the flames net front presence on a few occasions and he didn't have any issues. He seemed very solid to me.

hopefully Coots isn't out for too long. he frustrates me as a fan, but i can still recognize his importance to the team.

nothing about any call ups so far today, so you'd have to think Lyubimov comes in and they stick with Cousins at 2C.
I thought Cousins looked pretty good at 2nd line center and i certainly like Luby's style of play

I agree i thought his puck handling skills especially directing the puck towards a defenseman's stick on weak shots was way above average. He has his head on a swivel when he goes behind the net for the puck unlike Mason who has his head down and doesn't realize where the forecheck is coming from. I thought he played well and i dont think we saw the best of his play yet.
