I think it is more along the lines of letting everyone know that virtually anyone can be a healthy scratch and you need to earn your spot on the roster. Ghost hasn't quite been there defensively at times and was on the wrong end of some turnovers, for sure. That and it almost seems like it was just his turn to take his lumps and return all fired up. I'll be really surprised if he gets benched again tomorrow, despite the win without him.

This technique has certainly worked for other guys like Raffl and Manning.

That's what I was thinking.
Too bad you can't teach everyone on the team that fire Konecny has in him!!!!

So, as I mentioned in the other thread, the Phantoms are 1st in their league in goals scored and we are 2nd in scoring in the Nhl, so together we are sort of corning the market on goal scoring here.

Jesus, that may be the best team we've played all season long. They were very fortunate to blank us, but I don't know how they keep up the pace all over the ice for the entire game. It's like we're constantly playing 5 on 6 out there.

Maybe it's time for MDZ to get the healthy scratch on defense. Not sure what the hell he was doing on each of the first two goals against and he played only 14 minutes, which seems very low for him.

It looked as if they were trying not to lose, yet not trying to win either.......

I don't like this running the gauntlet with Mason either. Why not put Stolarz in there? If he messes it up pull him just as they would Neuvirth. Stolarz is going to need ice time, and if for some unfortunate reason, Mason gets hurt......
With the expiration draft we aren't going to be able to keep Mase and Neuvy, so get Stolarz some ice time now. Put some experience under his belt.

Stolarz will definitely get his chance. There are several back to back situations coming up and I'm sure if he were to perform extremely well right away, he would get more opportunities. It does look more and more with each passing day like our goalies in the near future will be our very own prospects. Hexy, being a goalie himself, has fully stocked us in that area as well as others.

It was just frustrating to watch probably the first game all season long that we've played that was not at least close or in our favor as late as the third period. We've been blown away late by Chicago and Toronto, but those were tie games in the third period. This one was not even close on the scoreboard late. Fucking Vasilevskiy was stopping everything, so a two or three goal lead felt a lot more like four or five.

Perhaps it's just me, but I thought scoring was up in the Nhl and yet it seems like we're running into a hot goalie every other game that has out of this world numbers.

Just caught the game they definitely hit a hot goalie and took advantage of every chance they had. The lightening are no doubt good but again the Flyers out shot another opponent. Just need to play better all around especially defensively.

hitting on a few of the last posts..

the TB game was the first game this season where i thought the flyers were just an inferior team. they had lots of shots and especially shot attempts, but they missed the net a ton and most of the shots were from the outside with not a ton of traffic. TB keeps teams to the outside so incredibly well. And it's a tough matchup for the Flyers (who are very small) to get inside against the likes of Hedman (6'6), Sustr (6'8), and Coburn (6'5). i didn't think they played poorly, just didn't have the team to take on the bolts. plus, vasilevsky was solid. he didn't have a ton of incredible saves, but he made every save he should have and didn't give the flyers a ton of second chances.

i read on twitter last night that goal scoring is now below last years rate. started extremely hot out of the gate, but it's WAY down from those numbers now.

i think Stolarz will play tomorrow or Wednesday. Since Neuvy got hurt there hasn't been a need to play him yet. Mason's started what, 3 games in a row i think, and they've been pretty spaced out. That being said, i'd be shocked if Neuvy doesn't take one of the next two. My guess would be Wednesday, but i hope it's tomorrow so i can watch it :)

They are a very good team but i didnt expect to get outplayed like we did by TB without Stamkos. Im not sure but i think i remember losing most daytime games for the past several years. On a side note i love the way TK plays and wish everyone played with the same amount of energy every game like he does

truth on matinee games i think. the flyers typically suck in those and in the state of the florida. so this could be a tough week haha

and they said on the broadcast that the bolts have a better winning percentage without Stamkos. which is kind of crazy. decent sample size for that too..

looks like some line juggling in practice today. simmer and jake switching spots.

not a big fan to be honest.. i really like the '2nd line'.. i guess they're trying to get G going at even strength

I would keep the 2nd line together and make them the first line and make the first line the second line.

Well, that really doesn't change anything...Lol

The issue is that Couturier isn't a top line center. I'll be thrilled if he heats up offensively like he did last season though. He's playing with two dynamic wingers regardless, so everything is set for him to have success.

Chris Therien on Radko Gudas during the game last night: "Nothing he does is soft and cuddly. It's rough...and hard."

I just found this rather hilarious, especially when you take it out of context...Lol

hopefully Coots isn't out for too long. he frustrates me as a fan, but i can still recognize his importance to the team.

nothing about any call ups so far today, so you'd have to think Lyubimov comes in and they stick with Cousins at 2C.

It's a big blow to the team to lose Couturier with what appears to be a serious left MCL sprain. We have a lot of depth on this team right now, but this is one of the 4 or 5 guys we would absolutely not want to lose because there is no replacement for him. Perhaps Schenn will play center now, it's tough to say. Either way, we did stick together well and close the game out pretty decently without him. Mase was good, but I don't think he even needed to be great because we mostly played solid team defense in front of him.

Really nice to see Weise get his first. Maybe now he can relax and just play his game.

Big challenge tonight against a team that dominated us in Philly and without Couturier this time around. No excuses though. They don't have Stamkos and you don't see them feeling sorry for themselves.

Also, who starts? Do you give Stolarz his first shot against a top quality team on the road or trust that Mase can come back strong on back to back nights?
