They called him back up today.

Lines in practice today were:

Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds
Konecny-Couturier-Voracek
Raffl-Cousins-Weise
Read-PEB-Lyubimov
Vandevelde

Hopefully that holds for tomorrow.
That second line is fire!

I like the lines a lot. We can all agree that the second line should be left alone and Schenn needs to be playing in the top six, so that puts him on the top line. Minus injuries, there's no other way to claim who our top six forwards are. Guys like Raffl and Read provide some stability and perhaps scoring punch on the lower lines.

I'd really like to see Provorov and Weise get their first goals, PEB as well. I think Lyubimov has earned a spot with his speed and effort.

We need to be better at even strength here. Our power play and penalty kill has been keeping us in games as of late, but we're clearly losing the 5 on 5 battle.

The difference between us and other teams in the Metro also is our home records. We need to start making home ice count for us. 3-3-1 in Philly is unacceptable. After tonight, 7 of the next 9 games are on home ice and we need to start taking advantage of this. The Leafs just aren't on our level either and tonight should be a win. No excuses. It's time to get this done.

Simmer is having a great night, the goaltending is a different story.
=+
Mason sucks tonight
I honestly think it's time for Hextall to consider trading for a proven goalie.

We would probably have to give up a guy like Schenn and another youngster to get a guy like Quick-just an example-but we need a guy that can play 60+ games, and win over 30+ of them.

Sorry, but I'm getting too damn old for this next year shit.

I think the Kings would trade Budaj before Quick? I would rather give Stolarz a shot and see what he has?

funny, that was going to be my next question.
How deep of a hole do they have to get in,before they try out Stolarz,to see what he can do.

If they're going to let Konency,Provorov,etc..test the water, why not Stolarz?

I would at least give him a shot. Either way, I think we have to deal Mase or Neuvirth imo. I think it's possible that once we deal one of them, maybe the goalie we keep will get out of his funk? Mase has looked worse, but neither is doing well at this point. Trade one and give Stolarz a shot. I would not trade for a goalie.

I'm normally optimistic and not so much the doom and gloom type, but what a 3rd period implosion by our boys last night!! My God, we had outplayed them pretty badly through two periods. They were only still in the game because of the full two minute 5 on 3 chance late in the 1st.

So, we have a 3-2 lead entering the 3rd with every reason to suspect that we'd finish strong. Then, we completely stopped skating and Mase turned into a block of swiss cheese. Absolutely unreal and embarrassing to the nth degree.

I don't even know what to say. We basically just let a really good Ahl team with a few decent Nhl'ers on it destroy us. I'm sorry, but we have a lot more Nhl level talent and experience than they do, but it looked the other way around late in this game. Truly soft and pathetic. We're going nowhere without more focus for 60 minutes and better goaltending.

I'm glad that we have another game today, because this is the kind of painful end to a game that could stick with us for some time. Learn from it, quickly forget about it and move on. I am still a bit stunned myself, obviously.

Alright, so last night shows why we love these guys. First game back home after a very disappointing third period the night before and we also get a very unlucky bounce to kick it off. We rally to tie it, go down again off a dazzling move by Koivu, tie it up again, then go out and take it from them in the third period via a gorgeous tic-tac-toe power play goal. We lock it down late and Mase stands tall when needed, which probably gives the entire team at least a brief, metaphorical erection. It's almost as if one of our goalies had to get injured before the other could step up and make some big saves.

Listen to the Raffl interview with Bundy after the game. He is extremely candid and brutally honest about being a healthy scratch the night before and returning. Essentially, he said it made him stronger and hungrier. He admits that they choked away the game the night before and really need to mash the gas pedal in the third period instead of sitting back. Use their speed and don't look back.

Really proud of us to pull one out against a team that had just beaten Pittsburgh in their building. We probably deserved more than three goals, but Dubnyk as shown is just really strong right now. Manning and Raffl both come back stronger after being benched, which is exactly what you want to see.

Huge win. Now keep the momentum rolling on home ice. We lead the league in points by defensemen by a wide margin. Keep it going full throttle. Nobody can stop our offense when we are competing hard for 60 minutes.

As much as it sucks for Neuvy, I think his injury helps the Flyers. Mason is a headcase and needs to know he's the guy before he starts playing well. Now he's the guy, now he'll start playing well. You could see it from the game on Saturday, he came in and played superbly. When he knows he's the guy, he's the better goalie of the two IMO. Plus he's not made of glass.

With Neuvy hurt we cant do any goalie trading now. Even with both goalies healthy i think it would be a bad time to trade one when their value is at its lowest in a few seasons.

This was a terrible showing in the third and it just glorifies the fact that we don't play for 60 minutes per game. Most times its the first period this game it was the third. Either way we need to play a full 60 minutes of hockey and OT if needed.
