Jesus Christ. I know the Nhl hates the Flyers, but I also thought that the Nhl no longer owned the Coyotes. With all due respect, that was a fucking travesty last night.

Seven minor penalties called on us, several of which I have yet to see. They directly led to the first and last goals against, which obviously lost us the game.

The Coyotes have a young, fast, skilled team, but they are going nowhere right now with their run-n-gun style of play. That much was clear throughout. It may sell tickets, but not consistently win games.

I thought Smith outplayed Mase pretty comfortably and we still overcame a two goal deficit on the second night of a back to back against a very fresh, motivated team in their home opener.

We controlled play for long stretches of this game when we weren't busy killing penalties, including the entire OT period right up until another bogus penalty was called on us. Their extra skater hops on the ice and it's an easy 4-3 win via the surprise 4 on 3 against some tired guys for us.

For the vast majority of this game, I felt like it was only a matter of time before we broke through and put them away for good. They are young and fast, but just don't have the experience. They have a cute, little team, but we would smoke them in a seven game series. I'm glad it's not an eastern conference team that the refs gave the extra point to.

I am not hanging any of this loss on the forwards, defense or coach. We won the even strength battle last night, but the refs wanted to make it a lopsided special teams contest. Mase definitely wasn't sharp (What is he doing on the second goal against?), but did appear to settle down later in the game. Smith is just better, plain and simple.

It goes down as a tough pill to swallow altogether, but at the end of the season, it's a point salvaged that we may not have acquired last season. I think even the Coyotes would admit deep down that they were extremely fortunate to "win" that game.

As far as penalties were concerned, I will sight some specific examples of what I am talking about. The two too many men penalties on us in just the first 3 minutes of the game were both very sketchy. You can't just call a penalty on a team while changing simply because the puck was near the bench at that time. The "high" hit by Simmonds I thought was a hard, legal check. Where exactly was the high sticking by Cousins? They never showed it. I am also not buying the delayed call that directly led to the game winner in OT. The Flyers appeared to be calling it a dive and Jake got some extra minutes tacked on at the end for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The penalty on Streit for tripping was perhaps mostly just an idiotic move by him. I sure as hell don't think Doan is going to speed past Provorov for a breakaway on that one. He should've just let him go.

I can agree with you Mav but it was their home opener and Philly played the night before so I'm not overly concerned 3-4 points take that all day long. They are definitely a better team this year with good depth that alone makes me feel better.
Pro looks solid already for a kid will only get better can play in every situation. Very calm makes great passes.
G is starting to feel it and the whole line looked good. Read looks to be more confident this year too. I like the mix of rookies and vets.

I am truly not concerned at all, it's just that competitive fire in me that hates to lose a game we probably played well enough in to win. I am sure that guys like Voracek, Giroux and Simmonds feel the same way.

I know it's very early, but Mase has continued to leave the door open (if only slightly) for Neuvy to steal his job. A huge save here or there last night by Steve and we win that game, regardless of what the refs did. He just didn't have his best stuff.

G definitely started to dominate. You could just see it happening and then he won 73.7% of his faceoffs to put a stamp on it.

I can't wait to get Schenn back and we can really start to roll.

When Schenn comes back it will make the third and fourth lines even better. Can't wait!

Anyone else have a take on the game last night? We don't even have game threads anymore for God's sake!! What is happening in this place!?! Lol

This is an absurdly exciting time for our franchise and very few of us are here talking about it. I know the season just started, but wow...

I thought the no call when Vorecek had his stick ripped out of his hand was bullshit, and it ultimately cost us the game in OT!!!!

Fuckin Refs SUCK!!!!

It's tough to start out the season with a west coast road trip, so I think everyone would be on board if we knew we would have a win and a tie after two games.

That being said, they grinded through that second game on the tail end of a back to back against a fresh team on their opening night. 7 goals in two games.

Tough game against Chicago tomorrow night. Could be a trap game after a very positive start, maybe looking forward to their opening night.

And yet, great start to the season. Lots of positives to take away from this.

From what I can see, only Anaheim and Carolina will have their home openers later than us and they happen to be the first two teams we play at home...Lol

Those teams are winless in five games to date as well, so we're handling this nicely so far.

I though Manning had one of his best games as a Flyer. Was physical and pushed the rush for the 1st goal. Konecny looks like he belongs. Was physical and creates chances and opens up the ice. All effort every shift. I thought Provorov looked nervous in the 1st and settled down in the 2nd and 3rd. He started the 2nd on the PK which looked to give him confidence. After the 1st he looked really good.
THIS ^^^^^^^

Chicago started out 0-2 are going to come out strong but we play well against them though. I think we are playing well and may just steal this game in Chicago

If we play like we did in the game against the Kings we can beat anyone anytime but we need that consistency and if we put up that 4th goal no team can beat us.

Just an observation on both goalies.
We have to work so much harder when mason plays net as he gives up more rebounds.
Neuvy also handles the puck way more efficiently.

A couple big things we definitely have going for us right now are balanced scoring and dominance at even strength. Six different players have scored a goal already and fourteen have at least one point. Eleven players have a positive plus/minus rating. Only three of them negative.

We're going to get fucked every now and then by the refs, that's just how it goes. I think we can rack up a lot more wins and points than anyone expects though if we can play this well or better moving forward.

I'm at the stage where I just can't wait for the next game to come and for us to get guys like Schenn, Gudas and MDZ back.
