A couple big things we definitely have going for us right now are balanced scoring and dominance at even strength. Six different players have scored a goal already and fourteen have at least one point. Eleven players have a positive plus/minus rating. Only three of them negative.

We're going to get fucked every now and then by the refs, that's just how it goes. I think we can rack up a lot more wins and points than anyone expects though if we can play this well or better moving forward.

I'm at the stage where I just can't wait for the next game to come and for us to get guys like Schenn, Gudas and MDZ back.

Chicago and then Anaheim on Thursday home opener are struggling out of the gate right now.
Pounce on these son of a bitches and take 4 points boys!

Our even strength play is so much better than it was 2 years ago and even the first half of last year. Hakstols system had been grasped right after the all star break and it shows in our 5 on 5 play. We have guys coming into their own Schenn Couts Simmer. We have stars in Gee and Voracek and some young stars just starting out and two solid goalies. Things are looking bright for this team. If we can play consistently good offense with our defense and goalies we will be right there in the end.

Well, let's see how this one plays out. Nothing going right so far. I am curious to see the response with two entire periods remaining.

Not sure what the deal is, but we've looked a step slow this entire game and Chicago really has gotten every single break. It's absolutely unreal.

Well,at least we got 1 to build a foundation on.
Let's replay the 2nd period performance against L.A. to finish this off.

It would be a damn shame if we don't at least get a point out of this after crawling all the way back from 0-4, then giving up another goal.

And two minutes after I say that, we give up another one...

We're leaving our goalies in far too many bad positions.

We have an absolutely explosive offense, but the defense needs to be better here. We scored all four of our goals in that game in under 5 and a half minutes of clock, but also gave up a bunch of odd man rushes late in the third, a couple of which led to goals.

Kind of makes you wonder if the D is hurting that bad with Gudas out.....
With all the young guys, they could gain some knowledge from Gudas....

But after this game, I can only comment with.......

Idk if I can analyze the goals against one by one, but I do know that something Provorov did or didn't do directly resulted in two of their six non-empty net goals.

I'm not sure whether he flat out fell to give them a breakaway goal against Neuvy or he lost an edge, but that was pretty blatant. Later on, I believe he fed a tip pass to Couturier in traffic just inside their blue line that could not be handled, then darted into the offensive zone and they had a big time odd man rush the other way, which they scored on.

Some of this could definitely be growing pains with our young defensemen and I'm including Ghost in that mix too. He's directly at fault for some of these mistakes too, for sure. I remember seeing him let a guy get in behind him at the far post for an easy tap in 2 on 1 type goal.

These are mostly mistakes that can be corrected in the defense, not so much goalie errors. The fourth goal Neuvy gave up was definitely weak however. I'm sure that had a lot to do with him being pulled. He made it very easy for Hossa to get that 500th goal.

The end result here was definitely frustrating because after looking at the rosters, the Hawks dressed seven players that I've never even heard of, which means they are probably all rookies.

Provorov was actually a -5 in this game, so perhaps he has a little growing up to do here. Only Streit was anywhere even near that at -3. Everyone else -1 or better.
