We have an absolutely explosive offense, but the defense needs to be better here. We scored all four of our goals in that game in under 5 and a half minutes of clock, but also gave up a bunch of odd man rushes late in the third, a couple of which led to goals.
Prov -5 nothing went right for him tonight hopefully he bounces back.

Provorov was actually a -5 in this game, so perhaps he has a little growing up to do here. Only Streit was anywhere even near that at -3. Everyone else -1 or better.
It was the last game of the road trip we kind of mailed it in for 1.5 periods. Both goalies really hung out to dry. I trust that Hakstol wont let this type of game linger and we start fresh Thursday.

You should join too, if at all possible! :heh:

Just one game but boy, he was downright awful last night. Still growing pains should be expected. It will probably take about 1/2 a season for him to really start putting it together. But, not a good year to draft him in fantasy, though. :heh:

It is very encouraging that we're a team that is able to overcome virtually any deficit as proven already in two of our three games. We were down 1-3 against Arizona and came back to get a point, then dominated the OT until a penalty was called on us, which led to the eventual loss. We again trailed Chicago 0-4 on the road. Everything was going their way and within 5 and a half minutes of ice time, we tied that sucker up against a perennial Cup contender. I'm just disappointed that we couldn't close the deal when it appears that they were dressing at least five or six rookies. Their cast of veterans is as strong as any team, but still. It's as if their younger players outdueled our younger players, which is not expected to happen often.

The bad news is that we're letting the puck hit the back of our net at an alarming rate. Perhaps the return of Gudas after three more games will help in that area, but we really need to focus more defensively. I can't blame the majority of this on the goalies, even though both of them have given up a couple they wish they had back. I'm talking about breakaways and 2 on 1's that we are giving up far too often. That certainly needs to be rectified and I believe it will be.

Otherwise, I think guys like Couturier, Konecny, Simmonds, Read, Raffl and Manning have played well for us to date. At some point, you start to wonder where the scoring is from guys like Giroux, Voracek, Ghost and to a lesser extent Konecny, but they are piling up the assists.

Well, that's rather convenient considering this is the very game that Schenn returns. Raffl was in his exact position on the top line. So, just plug him in and he's an upgrade over Raffl. Off we go. Weird how this shit works out sometimes...

Either way, I hope it sparks the top line. Remember, Schenn had a pretty huge year last season and he is a pretty physical player that may create more space for G to work. He also has quite a bit of money to go out and earn.

This is right on the money and one other thing to point out Schenn comes back 1st game is the home opener.

Well, it's a tough decision. Is he even the guy that we demote? The better question may be, what will we do with him once Gudas and MDZ are both back and healthy?

Based on the numbers right now, maybe MacDonald gets sent down to the Phantoms and Manning stays in the top six while MDZ is still injured.
Why is Schultz name never brought up to get sent down. Is it contractual?

I have Ghost as scoring the first goal tonight. Everyone put your guesses in.

Well, he would have to clear waivers, for sure. Another team could take him for cheap and they probably would. Then we're on the hook for some of his salary (I'm assuming half) and no longer have him. Considering all the defenders we have right now and how close we are to the cap, that would really suck.

That makes sense that nobody would claim McD and Manning doesn't have to clear waivers.

Thanks Mav!

It seems like the Hextall/Hakstol way is that the best players play. If a guy has to be sent down, I'd guess it's the guy who most deserves it regardless of the possibility of a waiver claim.

Let's see what they do at home I expect that the D will be better. Young guys need some practice time. dmen always take longer to adjust Pro will be fine he just needs to keep it simple.

I'll take Schenn first game first goal!

First game back after road trip usually stinks and they can't beat Anaheim. If there PP does anything they walk in this one too bad.
