I am assuming that three of Lyubimov, Cousins, Konecny, Laughton, VandeVelde and Weal will be cut. Yes, all forwards. But then, who is our 13th forward playing in the first few games (while Schenn is serving his suspension), then sitting on the bench? Possibly Read. I hope that at least Konecny and Cousins make it and start. Otherwise, I'm not concerned.

To me, carrying 8 dmen seems odd. Manning must be sitting at #8 on the depth chart and they're afraid of losing him to waivers. While that's not ideal, it's not that big of a deal IMO. I'd rather be able to keep two forwards up. Then I think VDV is a pretty straightforward cut, then it's 1 of Lyubimov, Cousins, Konecny, Laughton, and Weal. To me, Laughton has been the most unimpressive to this point, plus he's waiver exempt (unlike Weal).

If you cut VV, all of those forwards are young though. I doubt that they will have two young guys practicing and watching games from a suite.

I would just rather have guys like Schultz and Manning not getting competitive ice time than Laughton, Lyubimov or Weal.

Might the Flyers keep 8 defensemen?

I think VDV should get cut also.

We can send MacDonald done to start the season. No one will claim him. Provorov get 10 games to prove himself. If he has trouble he goes back to Juniors and A Mac comes back up. Cut VV and Laughton. Konecny gets 10 games and if he doesn't cut it he goes back to Juniors and bring one of those guys back up.

Looks like Laughton is out 3-4 weeks. VV and Lyubimov are not in the lie up tonight. On the D end no A Mac or Manning.

Looks like the Last forward spot is between VV and Lyubimov. Apparently we have to keep 14 forwards to start because of the Schenn suspension.

Tonight:

  • Schenn – Giroux – Simmonds
  • Voracek – Couturier – Raffl
  • Konecny – Bellemare – Weise
  • Cousins – Gordon – Weal
Scratched: Read, Lyubimov, VandeVelde, Laughton

On defense, this will be the squad:

  • Del Zotto – Gudas
  • Ghost – Schultz
  • Provorov – Streit

Manning out too it looks like. So they really only need one more cut then I think right? VV, Lyubimov, Weal, or Konecny seem to be the most likely. Mav makes a good point, don't want to have the younger guys rotting in the press box. I think they're scared of Weal getting claimed on waivers though. Is Lyubimov waiver exempt? I don't know the answer and can't find it. Should be an interesting choice! Kind of an odd bottom 6 to me tonight. Would make more sense to swap Bellemare and Weal to me (or Bellemare and Cousins for that matter), but I guess they want to see what Bellemare brings at C.

I actually think AMac has played alright in the preseason. I think he's a good 7th dman, but I wouldn't mind him as the 6th dman with Schultz in the press box.

I read somewhere a while ago that Lyubimov is waiver exempt.

I agree wholeheartedly on Cousins in for Frenchie and AMac over Schultz

Manning is week to week. Laughton is out 3-4 weeks. 1 forward must go.

Dare I say, last night in the third period, these guys looked as good if not better than they did last year when they pulled it all together and made the push for the playoffs!!!!!

And it is damn good to see Voracek getting back in the groove!!!!!!

It's true. Anyone wanna bet against Voracek scoring 20-25 or more goals this season, let alone the 11 that he had last season?

I don't think any sane individual is taking that bet.

Also, Konecny looks like he's primed and ready to give us a serious boost offensively this season. I'm sure Hexy wants him back in juniors, but if he can contribute now in a top six role, we need to let him spread his wings and fly.

Between just these two factors alone, we're easily going to score more goals this season than last.
