Quite honestly, as good as our power play is, we would probably rather have a power play than a penalty shot. So, the penalty shots were unfortunate breaks for us, really.

We will take a penalty shot with Giroux shooting every single time, but with Laughton, I would probably rather take our power play that operated at 23.4% all of last season and is well over 30% through the preseason and first game.

I think one wrinkle the league could do is in overtime, if they're awarded a penalty shot, they should have the option of either taking the shot or the power play - I think that would make things interesting

Giroux led Ovechkin last season by 3 points for the league lead in power play points. As creative and talented as he is on a penalty shot or in the shootout, I probably trust him more to help us score with the man advantage. They should always give us the option of a penalty shot or penalty if the shot was issued.

And like you say, a 3 on 2 power play may be as valuable or even greater than that of a clear breakaway.

Agreed I was thinking the same thing I'd rather have a PP. Just to clarify it's a 4 on 3 in OT...

I'm not as discouraged with last night as I probably should be. Mason's worst game as a Flyer, yet it came after a phenomenal opening game. I'll be worried if we can't bounce back tomorrow

Panthers are a real good team who had a packed house and it was their first game

Flyers should be better tomorrow imo - whether that ends up getting them a win, we'll see

All without Jake or G scoring a goal. I can feel a nice rebound tomorrow. Hopefully, anyway

If Sam Gagner is in the lineup tomorrow, I'm curious who is out - Matt Read?

I still say I was shocked at how big and fast the Panthers appeared. Or was it the Flyers appeared small and slow. I do think that Simmonds moving down even for one game is not a bad thing. Hakstol establishes that he is the boss and a line of conduct is clearly drawn.

I liked Gagner on the 2nd PP unit during the preseason. The holes in the overall team play and the blueline in general ... well, we all know that there are going to be growing pains as the team gets to know the new system and as they transition to the players of the future.

I saw Umberger was out today but it was just maintenance I think. I'd rather bump RJ out instead of Read. Gagner at least offers the ability to rack up a few points.

Hakstol seems to not care who you are or what your salary is. There is a certain level he wants his players at.

I just hope that's the best Florida can play and we played at out worst. It's tough to get down 4 quick goals and make a comeback. I don't know what happened to Mase but I believe he rebounds and its a battle throughout this time. I do give kudos to White for at least showing some life after we were down big.

Well either it's a conflicting report or someone worded it wrong

Okay so Panotch made it seem like it was Neuvy who was not on the ice, but he meant that he was, so Mase is indeed out
