Yes, they tanked for Duncan: How Tanking Changed 3 NBA Franchises Forever - Wolfgang Sport

No, they didn’t, or got rewarded after a bad effort to tank: The Myth of the Tanking Spurs - Box Score Geeks Articles

My prediction is that the Spurs are going to finish with the third worst record again and get the number one pick. And some people who say that the spurs are a small town market and why would the NBA want them to get it, I’m not saying that it would be a conspiracy. I just think that they are going to win the first overall pick or there’s going to be a really bad trade to get it.

And yes, you can tank to get the third worst record. That was one of the reasons why they change the lottery so that the bottom three have the same chances. The Spurs got lucky in 97 as there were two other teams worse than they were that year, and the Grizzlies agreed to not be eligible because they were the expansion team who got other advantages, now it’s just the odds.

The bottom 4 now have equal chances, as of 2019. That's why the draft lottery now determines 4 teams.

I'm waiting for @MHSL82 to say something. I hope it's not because of apathy, because that's even worse than being the worst team in sports.

At least the worst team in sports should garner some angry passion.

Don’t worry, they will win 5 out of four games and all will be alright.

I wish you had said something that made sense.

I liked learning about garbage pails that ate children, more than reading about bad math.

How about children who ate garbage pails versus mathematical applications on bad reading?

So the Jazz went from 9th to 13th in one day?

Well, they had a chance to be temporarily sixth place, but they lost to the Spurs. And since then they fell to the 13th.

I am not a John Collins fan. Not because of his contract, but because he has too many invisible games. Utah does not need an expensive big. Markkanen and Kessler alone are awesome.

Rudy Gay was out either way. The negatives are, in no particular order:

1. what else we could have traded for (unknown);
2. the second round pick we gave up;
3. the expense;
4. minutes he could take away from someone else; and
5. invisible minutes.

3 - 5 are big negatives.

I don't know if Gay was out. Even if he was, so what?

Add players that actually help.

Also the Jazz are helping Atlanta by being a cap space dumping ground. They should be getting a first round pick for that.

Sounds like hé shot well by passing out so much, highly selective of his shots? I’d say this was ok because you need to shoot as a team efficiently. No sense in shooting it to shoot more. However, the grades are low for doing so - that tells me that it wasn’t from good decisio making on when to pass out and when not to - unless I’m reading it incorrectly. Could you tell me what you think it means, besides him being bad or good just one year?

I think it means:

He needed to be assisted, to score. He could not create his own shot.

He rarely passed or assisted on drives.

He was average at drawing fouls on drives, and average at finishing with contact.

He shot very well at the rim. But based the above parameters, he needed to be set up right at the rim.

Are there grades for his teammates, Clint Capela? These sound like they could be Capela's grades too. Except that I think would have a higher drive foul and contact foul rate.

Do they have grades for Gobert?

I need to see what kind of grades a few other familiar players have, so Collins can be put in comparison to them.

Then lastly, for a different player, let's take The Finnisher. So we have another reference point.
