Reading Nashville contract will void itself due to MILB arrangement. Back to Nolan it appears

From Evan Grant:

Options: Depending on what happens with Lynn, the Rangers will need either one or two viable starting pitchers to help carry the innings burden. With a limited budget, it limits the Rangers’ options. They are forced to look for reclamation projects or veterans whose best days are likely behind them. From the first category, there are the likes of Anthony DeSclafani and Taijuan Walker; from the latter Rick Porcello and Charlie Morton. Chris Archer might fit somewhere between the two groups. The Rangers are not seeking a starter to carry them to the playoffs. They are seeking somebody who can buy time for some of the younger pitchers and who might have trade value come July.

Prospects: Limited to five innings in rookie ball over the previous two seasons because of elbow issues that eventually led to Tommy John surgery, right-hander Kyle Cody made a huge and encouraging jump. Cody, 26, made five starts in September, allowing no more than one run in any of them. The Rangers did manage his innings carefully. They never let him go more than 75 pitches or five innings but should have fewer governors in place next year. He will go to spring as perhaps the leading contender among the young pitchers. Neither Cole Winn nor Hans Crouse will pitch in the majors in 2021, but both should reach Double-A Frisco and position themselves to contend for rotation spots in 2022. There is optimism the system could be more consistently productive from that point on.

2021 goals: Develop a starter. It’s a must. It’s been nearly a decade since the Rangers have graduated a homegrown pitcher to long-term effectiveness in their rotation. It’s simply not economically feasible to try and contend while paying full retail for pitchers on whom somebody else has done all the work. There will be plenty of opportunities for young pitchers to seize a spot. Somebody just has to perform well enough to seize at least one.

Evan expects Lynn to be traded this offseason. I am not quite as optimistic as Evan is. I expect JD to overvalue Lynn again.

So how many buckets of batting practice balls do you think?

I suspect the board may have a bit more newsworthy items to report after 5 today

Lol. I have done my part the last few days. I just cannot stir up any interest from the others.

I doubt our roster decisions will be very newsworthy, unless we do something foolish. Now, when the Rule 5 draft rolls around, we might make some news.

I imagine the Cole Ragans decision will be the biggest one the Rangers have to make today.
