don't see the owners or JD eating 8M by dumping Lyles i agree with trading Lynn and maybe Gibson (have to eat at least half of the 17M we owe him) and see if a team would take Lyles if we eat half of his salary
I am not sure that the owners are opposed to "eating" salary as much as they are to acquiring significant new salary. Dumping a guy and replacing himistake. minimum salary guy is probably no big deal to them. Even with Odor, I think the holdup to dumping him is that JD's ego will not let him admit that mistake.

Would take more guts than he most likely has. What a dumb move on his part.

With Lyles it’s only 8M but cutting Odor would be almost 25M

Yes, that means admitting a huge mistake and JD is not willing to do that.

For the owners, financially, the cost of cutting Odor and paying a young prospect versus the cost of paying just Odor, is negligible.

I know it’s a dream but the best thing is to find a trade partner for Odor even if we have to eat half of the 25M and throw in prospect or 2

This is going in the wrong direction for a team rebuilding. That last draft didn't help.

I would be willing to do a trade where we have to eat 80% of his salary. Even that would mean a reduction in overall payroll cost.

I see us giving at least 1 top 30 prospect to get it done

There will be at least one lower-rung team that will take a gamble and pay good money to a free agent in a short-term deal in hopes that teams are allowed full capacity for attendance for the better part of next year. That will allow them to make a great trade at deadline time when all of a sudden the players contract will be very club friendly. Our team may not be that smart or that willing to gamble, but some team or teams will be.

Perhaps but Rangers seem high on Carter and Foscue who, Calis is not thrilled with. Regardless we are finally seeing some movement with minor league guys making it up. Huff is likely on the squad by midseason, Evans may make it outright, Tavares starts. We have some starting pitching that may make the opening day roster. It's a start but obviously we need to strike big with some elite bats. Jung looks solid but it would be nice to develop a superstar. We need that type of help

Our club may have more attendance pending vaccine than others but have to take what was said at face value about no spending. In contrast we have the new Mets owner who is eager to spend. A bit of a downer if you are a Rangers fan

I think our system needs a lot more help offensively than it needs pitching, although it needs both. That is why I would not mind a big bat with that second pick next year.

Yeah I get that. You can't afford to miss on that pick and pitching draft picks tend to be a bit riskier. A lot of time to figure that out

Pitching draft picks tend to take much longer in developing too

Big ups to all the Vets who have served. You are appreciated and our freedom is precious.

I have quite a few relatives who served in Vietnam, WWII and wife has grandfather she never knew who stormed Normandy and died in the battle of the bulge orphaning her Mom. It has an effect too for our good but to her lacking the fatherly male influence in her development.
Praying for continued peace in our land
