Don't consider that i have the ability to judge how they would turn out but Mathis is a one dimensional catcher he has been and always will be, Cabrera would have been good at 2B but we signed him to play out of position and got what we deserved.

Cabrera's issue was he didn't hit, he played just fine at 3B

You are right .228 BA made him one of the leading hitters on the team before he was released and 7 errors was nothing

To me, I don't care if the team is too left-handed in 2020. It isn't going to significantly hurt us. If there is a good reason to get rid of someone who bats as a lefty, besides them being a lefty, then get rid of them for that reason

Agree and in a case of three LH RF one needs to go. Either Choo or Maz. You choose.

Consider the fact that Choo does not recover from surgery. Does his contract let us off the hook? If not, do we pay his remaining $21mil and release him? Thoughts?

No, we would still be stuck.

Sullivan calls it minor surgery.

If we are not contenders in 2020, what good is Choo only as a DH for $21 mil?
We need to relieve the OF glut. Choo is by no means worth what we owe him so why not pay his contract and move on. Hard decision but keeping him is of little value. Not the alternative I would prefer but doesn't appear we have much choice.

Either way, releasing him or keeping him, I don't see JD and the owners being willing to do much this off-season. Personally I would sign a quality 3rd baseman and a good starter but who knows what they will do. Come on let's get to the off-season and find out

the last few offseasons were dead quiet.

I guess I’m a fool for expecting this one to be different. I’m assuming that they will make some moves because of the new stadium.

we probably won’t get a Cole or Rendon, but we can still get quite a bit better with second and third tier free agents. That should tell you how bad our lineup / position players are.

I agree, but the FO would never do that. For one thing, they want it to look like they think they are contenders and dumping Choo flies in the face of that. For another thing, that would be admitting not trading him in the past was a mistake and they don't like admitting mistakes.

They stand to make another with Choo if his surgery is not 100%.

I think they will make a move. Rendon is my first choice. We need a RH power bat at 3rd. Our pitching is not in bad shape. Another #3/4 would help without breaking the bank. If FO wants Cole, that would be a nice move to say the least but don't be surprised if he ends up in LLA

if he proves healthy you can probably move him and eat a good chunk of the money, but at least save something and get a flier prospect in return.
