It is all about the entire team. There is room for good older players on a great team. On our present team, that is not necessarily so.
I'm sure when Nat's picked up all the old guys they were not planning on going to the world series. Strange things do happen. Another thing that comes to mind. No matter how good some players think they are they can go down too. Cole and Verlander coveted by everyone was handled easily. Because they want big money does not mean we should automaticly sign them.

I think you do need a couple of veteran players who can be good mentors to the younger guys.

Funny though this especially holds true for pitching IMO. But this is why I would like Pence too. Got to move some LH bats though

LH bats has hampered us for a while. Tough job moving. Willie Odor Maz Guzman Choo. We all know the story on all these guys so how do we go about reducing the numbers. Guzman/Mazara would be easier imo but not sure the wisest.

I think Pence was good for the Rangers this year. He plays hard and is a good teammate. Problem is he can't stay healthy and he is another OFer. Whereas Choo can play but I just do not think he is as good a mentor as a guy like Pence. So ideally Choo is who I would want gone as far as a LH bat.

Kendrick
We bitch about JD bringing in a bunch of losers. Nat's do too and they are in the world series leading 2 games to 0. Suzuki Cabrera Rodney Eaton Kendrick:crazy:
Compared to what we brought and what we were building around I don't see the comparison. We brought Cabrera in and stuck him at 3rd a position he hadn't played and we brought in Mathis who made Suzuki look like an all-star. You're comparing apples and crabapples.

No but we shouldn't just not go after Cole based on one game. He was 20-5 this season. Every pitcher has games like he did. I expect our young pitching prospects will have a lot of games where they get handled by Major League hitters during their careers no one is perfect

I think we have to eat whatever it takes in Choo's salary to move him. And we have to accept that Mazara will probably be moved so that Gallo can move to RF.

Unless we get serious in FA I can't see us moving Guzman but I think Mazara and Choo get moved. And to open an everyday spot for Solak we have to move Odor because putting Solak at 3B would not be good for his development

Not comparing anything. Just pointing out all the older players on the Nats team. No one, even you, could know how any of them would turn out.

makes sense, but I doubt the front office can admit so many mistakes.

Might want to check on Choo. Believe he has a no trade clause to certain teams. Makes it even harder. Can not imagine anyone wanting Odor. He will start the 2020 season imo. Solak will likely go to AAA till Odor rolls over again. It's all a mess.

Rather go a different direction. Would prefer a hitting 3B named Rendon if possible

Don't consider that i have the ability to judge how they would turn out but Mathis is a one dimensional catcher he has been and always will be, Cabrera would have been good at 2B but we signed him to play out of position and got what we deserved.

I think with Choo he will take a trade if he realizes not doing so means sitting on the bench

First of all I don't see any change in the way Woody uses him now. D/H and part time defense. Second: With one year left on his contract he likely does not want to move his family and sell his house this close to retiring. Guessing.
