Sorry for being late to the party... I was in Hawaii for the past week. Got to watch the Steelers at the hotel pool bar sippin Mai Tai's. Rough game to watch on vacation, but here's my thoughts:

1) Hate to pull this card right out of the bag first, but holy shit the refs seem to keep getting worse every year. Numerous blown calls: pass interference on wheaton for the interception, pass interference on Cortez which was a gift at the goal line resulting ultimately in 7 points. Not to mention the idiot running the play clock... There is a video floating around the internet that shows the patriot’s play clock jump from 10 seconds back up to 25. Don't take this as me blaming the refs for the loss because I don't believe that. Sure there were a lot of iffy calls, but that is the NFL these days. Still is very alarming for the first game of the year.

2) Offense... Basically what others have already said. Same old song and dance. I've never been a huge fan of Haley's play calling. Even when we were winning last season I was still questioning him. He has an uncanny ability to make a star studded offense look average. Whether that is with his momentum-stopping-playcalling-absurdities, or his dink & dunk vanilla offense, he always finds a way to fizzle out in the red zone. He can move the ball almost all day between the 30's, but when it counts they struggle to cash in. Why do we always go JUMBO goal line package inside the 10 for the first 2 downs? We march down the field (sometimes 3-4 wide) then we get down there and bring in the heavy package. Spread Brown, Wheaton, DHB out and put Williams or Johnson in the backfield. We can run out of this, we can pass out of this, we can have Heath run a route out of this. Give yourself options. Look what the Pats did. Regardless, we've known all offseason that this team needs to put up at least 30 points per game. They failed to do that, and the result was starting the season 0-1. You can blame the key missing players (Bell, Pouncey, Bryant), but to me they should have won that game. 2 missed FG's & a blown TD by DHB were nails in the coffin.

3) Defense... What you've seen all offseason is what you get. Lake & Butler seem very content to keep that 10-15 yd cushion for zone coverages. Elite QB's like Brady are going to eat them alive all day with that patty-cake bullshit. Somebody else already covered this, but it concerns me that nobody seems to be trying to fix the secondary. Appears as if they are keeping the same motto of "keep the play in front of you". I'd like to see them allow the talent to challenge the ball more. At least contest the short yardage plays. 3rd & 2 and you see guys like Blake & Allen 10-yds off? Dafuq? Who cares if they give up a big play every now and then? That could at least stop this unit from bleeding yards for the full 60 mins. Also need to see more pass rush. But that isn't news. The Pats O-line had a bunch of no-names starting that night and the Steelers did alright providing pressure, but they didn't do the secondary many favors. All together it was a decent start. Hopefully they will continue to learn and adjust. Butler has his work cut out for him.

So here we are. Late in the season and Steelers are on a roll.
We all thought we'd meet in the playoffs and looks like we are heading there.
Steelers got the early injuries - Patriots got the later ones.
Crush the Broncos and see ya in the playoffs!!!!!!

See your still pissed about the anal tearing to start the Steelers season.

Oh you mean the game the Cheatriots tampered with headsets and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, the only way they can beat a good team is to cheat???? That game. The one where the monkey fuck punk blount got the greatest running back in the NFL suspended because like a chicken shit, like his boy brady, wasn't man enough to fess up to his guilt......

Pissed at a team that can't do math and realize 6 > 4.....
