As they say...you don't know what you don't know.

I have heard they will have 45 CFB games...much more than the LHN 2 games...

And they will have more of the "other" games...50+ MBB games, 40+ WBB games, x number of CBB and WSB games.

While the LHN shows all things Rusty Cow....the SEC will have more interest as it will show all things SEC

Just the point, LHN is for one team/school. It's only of interest to those who are fans of UT.

SEC will be watched by the fans of 14 teams/school. Those not interested in those teams/schools will not watch.

It's the same thing, except one if for one, the other is for 14. Thus, it should be at least 14times more popular.

Doesn't take a PHD to figure that out.

It's literally like ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Classic and ESPN News, rolled into one, yet Conference specific.

The PAC 12 Network is very similar and I watch it a couple times a week. I assume the SEC and ACC Networks will be much the same, and I will watch them as well.

The Longhorn Network will survive because they have an in-state population base (26 million) to support it. It won't be bundled into Basic packages elsewhere though, nor does it need to be. However, the other Big 12 schools are going to be hard pressed to get that kind of a big money deal.

Iowa St - 3 million (Competing with Iowa)
Kansas - 2.8 million (Competing with Kansas St)
Kansas St - 2.8 Million (Competing with Kansas)
Oklahoma - 3.8 million (Competing with Oklahoma St)
Oklahoma St - 3.8 million (Competing with Oklahoma)
West Virginia - 1.8 million

Texas Tech?
TCU?
Baylor?

With only Texas eyeballs on them and competing with Texas for in-state share?

I think everyone understands that it would be better, in the long run, financially for all member institutions and conference camaraderie, it the Big12 had a conference network like the others.

But, for a number of reasons, and the timing, we don't.

And I love these networks, I'm a CF geek. I watch a lot of games. So I have zero problems with SEC network being a smash hit. Not jealous.

What people need to realize is, athletic networks such as B10, P12, LHN, NFL, etc., are niche networks. It's kind of like going to a magazine section in a big bookstore, look at all the different mags, all niche publications.

I'm all for all of these networks, the more the merrier. Don't see what the issue is here; all the SEC'rs are ecstatic for this, and other CFB fans will watch some too. When you SEC'rs do get the network, and watch it for a year, you'll see that it will be good, but it's going to be almost impossible to reach the high expectations people have now. I went through a similar thing with LHN (of course though, I couldn't get it for the first year or so...) and I love it now. Not for the games, but for the other stuff it brings. I don't expect anyone else who's a fan of another team would watch it at all- it's for Longhorn fans only. And for that, it does a great job. Do I wish the conference had made it's own network instead, well maybe so. Do I wish the Ags and Horns could have made their own network together, maybe so as well. But some of those networks, like B10, NFL and LHN were breaking new ground, and they paid for it to a certain extent. The SEC network has and will benefit from those others' experience in this process.

The high expectations come from the actual games that will be on the SEC network. Believe there is only one game that would fall into 'big game status' from a network exec's point of view, first game between Ags and Cocks. And it is on a non-traditional gameday, I believe. The rest of the games will be those really only of interest to the schools involved, e.g. LSU vs Sam Houston State, etc.

To expect say, 25 games on CBS (which has been basically the SEC network, with top pick on weekly games) to be worth less than 25 games on the SEC network, is just not going to be correct, financially or competitively. But that is okay, for the fans of those teams, which is just like the satisfaction gained by LHN for it's fans.

It will be a network where fans will enjoy watching old, historically good games, basketball and baseball, plus 30for30/SEC storied type programs. It's all good for sports fans.
For the most part, I agree with you. Let's look at those 45 games. For someone like me, a UGa and Vandy fan in NC, I've had to watch the crappy games that UGa plays on a computer on ESPN3. They will now be on SECN. I can get a fair number of UGa and Vandy hoops games, and can get a lot of UGa and Vandy baseball games that I really will enjoy. I don't expect huge games ... we can get those on the networks ... it's all the other stuff we can't get now that will be awesome.

Well my points were rambling, so I'll agree there. But the point on the games (used 25 as a whatever number, so it's 45) was comparing the value of what's on CBS and what is on SEC. Are the 45 games on the SEC going to be better than those on CBS? That is, what does the conference get for those on CBS versus those on the SEC network? Because those on CBS are the top games, so they should pay more.

That's what I was trying to get across, not well as I can see. You may be the expert here, so go for it. I was just offering what I had read elsewhere.

Plus, the point that LHN and SEC, PAC12 and B1G are niche networks, LHN more so, but still it applies to all.
LHN maybe niche, but the SEC is going to start in 80 million households. That doesn't sound niche to me.

Well, that is a good point. 80 million is a huge chunk. I was just saying that they are all college sports networks, thus are for college sports fans, especially those fans of those particular institutions.

But I agree, it is a very large group of TV sets, lot of college, SEC sports TV sets. I'm sure it will be very popular, and garner great advertising revenue.

Keep in mind that 80 million is not just limited to SEC country, it's also comprised of national households from New York to California, North Dakota to Texas.

When I put up the population #'s that would be interested in individual school networks, that is just the total population of those states, not households. The number of households would be considerably less because a household could be as many as 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 people in a family.

Population

Texas - 26 million
Iowa St - 3 million (Competing with Iowa)
Kansas - 2.8 million (Competing with Kansas St)
Kansas St - 2.8 Million (Competing with Kansas)
Oklahoma - 3.8 million (Competing with Oklahoma St)
Oklahoma St - 3.8 million (Competing with Oklahoma)
West Virginia - 1.8 million

The number of actual households is probably 1/3rd of those populations at best. As I pointed out Texas can make it work on their own, but their fellow conference members are going to struggle to keep up on their own.

They're not going to bundle individual schools nationally like they do conference networks.
