A few things to remember today:

Saint Patrick was born in England under Roman rule and was likely of Italian descent.

The knights of the order of Saint Patrick wore blue.

Corned Beef is an American tradition, not Irish.

Ireland never had snakes.

I have a castle in Ireland.

Also don't think Patrick's descent or birthplace has much bearing on anything. For example, Saint George probably spent his entire life in Turkey but is the patron saint of England, Portugal and Catalonia, among others. Most people associate St. George with England and yet the guy probably wasn't aware the island of Great Britain even existed. Ditto for St. Andrew. At least Patrick has a documented history with Ireland.

Now do Santa Claus.

"St Nick's" actual name was Niklaus and he preferred to go by "Klaus"

Klaus lived in a small village in Germany, and never visited the north pole.

Reindeer cannot fly

Elves, as depicted in the stories did not exist. They were actual human workers, Klaus was just 11 feet tall.

He sees you when you're sleeping because he invented microwaves.

It only annoys me because everyone (at least down here) is all "Let's celebrate a great Irishman by wearing green and eating corned beef and cabbage! AND DRINKING A LOT!" None of those things are actually related to Patrick.

In general, I have a problem with celebrating people and events that are important to cultures by mocking the lowest stereotypes of said culture. I feel the same about Cinco de Mayo.

On a positive note, the radio is playing some Dropkick Murphys and Black 47 today.

My wife went to school in Ireland and lived there for years. Every St. Patrick's Day I get to hear her bitch about the way its celebrated here. Bright side is we rarely go out on this day so she wont have a couple of drinks and start lecturing strangers like she used to.

I am not sure what this is, I think it is a shot of Flint Michigan's water supply.

Pro tip - go to Dublin in late November and tell them you're there celebrating the day a wee bit early.

Pretty soon somebody is going to rip off my Air Jordan t-shirt at the gym and yell "STOP APPROPRIATING" at me. And they wonder why people find it hard to identify and support these movements.

To some, nothing is more valuable than being able claim victimhood.

Bennigans? The first frozen apple juice enriched with vitamin C?

Wasn't that the name of the "Irish Pub" in White Marsh (And Woodlawn)?

Essentially a Ruby Tuesday with green things stapled to the walls.
