Trump reportedly said he wants to stop German luxury car imports in the US

Really well thought out plan. Germany will retaliate with additional tariffs on US goods and possibly start scaling back US production. Winning trade wars is easy!

BMW makes cars in Spartanburg SC. Employs 8,000 Americans
Mercedes makes cars in Alabama , Employs 4,000 Americans
VW Makes cars in Chatanooga TN, Employs 2,000
VW North America Headquarters in Virginia employs 8,000 Americans
Porsche NA Headquarters in Atlanta employs 500...

And that isn't counting the tens if not hundreds of thousands of people who work in the dealerships that sell or service the cars, the companies that ship them, the suppliers who make the components or the restaurants and stores that serve the employees of the plants who will not have any disposable income anymore.

And for what? To try and convince people like me to buy a fucking Chevy?

I will push an old German car before I drive a brand new Chevy.



I can't wait until he picks the same fight with Japanese car makers.

The #AmericaFirst agenda is stupid because it doesn't put America First. It simply doesn't understand how the modern economy works and chalks everything up to "bad deals."

We've done this before. Tariffs don't work. Trade wars aren't "easy to win." And reducing everything to binary wins/losses and good/bad deals will not improve our standing in the world or our economy.

logical conclusion of this protectionist bullshit. USA makes and buys only USA goods.
rest of the world trades with each other.

Part of my post was in a way me arguing with myself. Every time something like this happens I feel they should have known better. Then often I hear about how fast the water rose. So I see both sides.

Scrolilng the old Facebook this morning, and I see a post claiming a Zimbabwean inventor made an electric car which never needs to be recharged, but the media is hushing it for some reason. I'm not sure what reason he thinks the media has for hiding such remarkable technology, but that's what he thinks.

Because I hate myself, I decided to look this alleged miracle car up. It's bunk. The media's not covering it because it's a hoax. Supposedly, it takes in ambient radio waves, amplifies them in some "company secret" material, and converts the higher intensity radio waves into electricity. The amplification happens without any input of energy, there's just suddenly more radio waves. Energy from nothing, a perpetual motion machine.

The upside of this is I now know low-power electronics like smoke detectors have been designed which do use ambient radio waves as their power supply, and that's kind of neat.
