What we should have done is traded Rios and signed Nelson.

After the way this all played out this year I am sure it's one JD is kicking himself over

Well now that ESPN is covering it they will bounce back...thanks ESPN.

They do get to end the season playing 4 games in Arlington, so it's really like a 6-61/2 game lead

They are only 3 losses a way from being out of the playoff picture completely. They have to play Seattle again...and the Angels again and us 7 more times. We could knock them out of the playoffs. I hope Derek goes HAM on those fuckers. I would praise him forever.

I would have almost kissed Derek on the mouth(except for that cheesedick attempt at a stache he tries to grow) after his performance today getting me into my fantasy playoffs. I would love to knock the A's from playoff contention, no greater baseball wood

I don't know exactly what was offered, but I know they didn't just let him walk. It's silly to believe that.

It isn't silly to believe that at all. It just means JD made a decision that he didn't want to spend that amount of money on Nelson. To me that was silly. Sometimes JD just makes a mistake. Every GM makes some and this appears to be one of JD's mistakes.

"At today's press conference to introduce Shin-Soo Choo, Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told reporters, including Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com, that he expects Nelson Cruz to sign elsewhere ([ame=""]Twitter link[/ame]). Daniels said that he called Cruz personally to express his thanks."
Rangers Expect Nelson Cruz To Sign Elsewhere ? MLB Trade Rumors

When JD says he called Nelson to express his thanks that sure sounds like they didn't plan on trying to sign him. I looked at several articles about him signing with the Orioles and not a one of them mentioned him turning down any recent offers from the Rangers.

Thank you Justin. I knew I read that more than once. I should have googled Evan.

Yes, the keywords in the article are "early on in the process, but Cruz held out for a multi-year deal."

That is what I said. They didn't offer him anything when his demands for as much money and for as many years went down. They didn't offer him anything anytime near the time he signed with Baltimore. They gave up on him when they signed Choo to that ridiculous contract. That is when JD called Nelson to thank him.

They were in on Nelson "early on", but didn't go back to him when his steep demands evaporated.

He still offered him a deal. It was reported. That tweet doesn't prove otherwise Bennie. I don't know why you are even arguing it though, because it's September...It's over and done with.

Cruz should have accepted the QO and then we wouldn't be in this mess with Choo, but he didn't and we are, so yay.

No idea where the article is and I don't care enough to look it up but I remember reading or hearing (think it was some of galloways bullshit) that right before Baltimore gave Nelson the 8 million dollar deal JD offered 6 million. There was never a source provided this was true

I also wish he hadn't got caught up in that stupid biogensis scandal and missed 50 games...Fucking asshole doctors that don't give a fuck about privacy. Good job!

The timing was bad for him to be looking for a multiyear deal after the suspension. He should have taken the QO and waited until he had a full year for teams to base a big payday on. He lost money this year but he's gonna get paid now and we ended up with Choo and we will have to see if he can rebound in the next 6 years? Shit!

Well I don't believe in sunk costs. Would rather release him or trade him for nothing if he gets to be too bad. I and hoping and praying that he can start off next year like he did this year and be not get hurt. Team was already barely hanging on, but when he took a nosedive so did the team.

Rev all I started out saying was that his season wasn't made by him playing in Camden Yards. It was insinuated earlier that his good season was due in large part because of where he is playing. You are the one who brought up that we offered him a contract. I simply said that that contract offer was irrelevant due to how much the circumstances changed later. My stance has been since you brought that up that they never offered him a contract once his demands went down and there is nothing on the internet that contradicts that belief that you have claimed is silly.

If it is September and it is over and done with then why did you bring up our offer that we gave him almost a year ago right after the 2013 WS?
