I'm not jazzed about putting in a 30-something 1 or 2 year coordinator as the HC. I would much rather hire Vrabel (or Quinn as a 2nd choice) and then if one of those youngsters really impresses during the interviews, try to hire them away for the same job here but with an added title (e.g. asst head coach) to make it a promotion on paper. Best of both worlds for me.

Hiring one of the young coordinators is the high risk/high reward approach. There are certainly wins, but plenty of flops as well.

IMO, I think John is unlikely to take a big swing here. He takes a big risk with say, Bobby Slowik, and he falls on his face. that could blow back right into his face.

I don't want Pete's level. That was my point. The last 5-6 years have been not good. I want to see a real change and be able to compete against Shanahan and McVay. The team will do nothing if we can't beat the better coaches in our division. I'm not sure who that is but it sure as hell isn't Quinn.
Maybe
Maybe not
Hopefully we'll see soon

Pete was so risk adverse I feel they didn't have a lot of middle of the field pass option. Yes they had some but it was basic stuff as they didnt seem to spend much time designing anything new.

Passes over the middle are intercepted at a 4x rate than all other passes. Thing is you CANT PLAY SCARED.

It's getting confusing trying to figure who is landing where.

Feels like a lot of teams are going to be in a holding pattern until more teams lose in the playoffs.

Interesting thing about Slowik is he started as a defensive coach before switching to coaching offense, both under Kyle Shannahan. So he has experience on both.

That's what's maddening with drafting JSN that these over the middle plays would have been dialed up way more frequently as we see with other teams. Definitely high int rate but also explosive chunk plays with chance to score. Hopefully new coach will dive into this.

Ben johnson would do wonders with the talent we have on offense

Lions have a much better line and a ton of talent as well.

Not saying he would be a bad hire but not a slam dunk

Sure seems like it. The guy has worked his way up the ladder coaching TE's, WR's, assistant QB coach, then two seasons as OC both stellar. Has not coached RBs but uses them well it seems.

Slowik has some good connections, take a look at him on this staff (Washington staff):
