You wouldve had to give up more than 1 roster player for that. If your teams intentions are to improve for the playoffs I think its counter productive to give up roster players.

for sure. At this point from what I have been reading, if the Kings do make a trade, a roster player will be part of the deal along with prospects/picks. Maybe the Kings will tank the rest of the season and end up selling off most the vets and clear room for some boys in the minors for next season. :D

Why does Dallas need space to keep Richards? He's already making 7.8, and the Stars are $7M under the cap, and have Langenbrunner's 2.8 coming off the cap in June. How much could he possibly demand that needed an extra, what, $2M, that they saved with this trade?

WOW. I was excited for this all day, tried to keep my hopes at a minimum, thinking we'd have to give up someone else...and Shero goes out and b*tch slaps GM Joe. Wow. The best part? This is a deal for the future. We get a guy already signed and a future RFA. PUMPED!

I think that was their strategy up until last year. Lombardi has taken the slow but sure pace to building a SC contender. Especially that Jack Johnson trade...brilliant!

He is signed through next season at a 1.5m cap hit.

Signed through next season, 1.5 mil cap hit. Well...him moving is probable. If not today/this week, then in the offseason. We took on a bunch of money, and we can't take ON any more in the D category.

From the Post-Gazette.. they state the Pens are still interested in Kovalev, for this year...

Fire and ice also said the pens have and caps have had their scouts at a bunch of games looking at Arnott should he decide he wants out by the deadline.

I think the Pens HAD to take niskanen.. I think Dallas is trying to find cap space and for this deal to happen, i think the pens had no choice in taking on the player. could he be moved for Kovalev? Would the sens do that?
