He may not have been coming back, but don’t you think they could have got a compensatory pick for him that is higher than what we gave up?

Aren’t they in the middle of a playoff race as well? How can their so-so defense afford to give up a good player, but our good defense needs their player?

GK may be on to something here... From Packers GM regarding trading both Clinton-Dix & Montgomery:
“You take everything into consideration when you make these kind of decisions, but performance comes first. That’s always the major factor in these decisions,” Gutekunst said Wednesday.

Clinton-Dix has regressed into an inconsistent, occasionally unpredictable player since making the Pro Bowl in 2016. Montgomery has operated as the team’s third running back and primary kick returner but made several critical mistakes late in last Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams, including a lost fumble on an ill-advised kick return.

So, what type of player are we really getting here for our 4th pick? I'm not so sure and will be watching him closely on Sunday.

Oh well let's wait & see. I sure hope that some of this is not an implication that the personnel folks for the Skins are doing a bad job. Sure - you can question the Smith move & that is a valid take. However - the Redskins have also made some very good moves over the last several years & are finally doing a pretty decent job w/ the draft & low key FA moves. Time will tell.

You made posts about the Skins needing to get secondary help after the other NFCE teams picked up WRs. Then they make that type of move & you are questioning it non-stop. Neither the Skins nor anyone else was going to get Peterson so forgot about that one. Getting a decent safety - at least for this season & perhaps beyond - should have satisfied your request. Not sure why some folks are overanalyzing this move so much. I suspect that some folks just want to find a reason to question the Redskins FO - maybe I am wrong.

Um, yes I wanted the Skins to be proactive within reason sitting at 5-2 with an offense yet to gel. I think they added a player known to be a pretty good football player, lately that coming into question. I was excited when the news was announced and I still am. Adding to the defense was certainly unexpected but brilliant none the less. My question is simply this, who are we getting in HHCD? I don't really care what pro fb focus says. I watched his game from last week vs Rams and quite frankly, he was ok. Perhaps an upgrade from Nicholson but perhaps, a change of scenery will invigorate HHCD to another level. That is my hope anyway.
So no, not questioning FO on this move. I'm also certain BA has NOTHING to do with this trade. :dhd:

I remember the stories of gang-bangin and gang affiliation that popped up as the reasons Philly let him walk when the Skins signed DeSean Jackson. As well as all the Jackson is over the hill talk. Was he a knucklehead when he was here? The two things that come immediately to mind are his backwards traveling and eventual fumble during a pt rt against Dallas. And not getting into the end-zone in the playoffs against GB. I still think the Dallas game shouldn't have come down to that and a team should be able to score from the 1 yd ln with a 1st n goal to go situation. So yeah, he was a knucklehead. He was also the best and most legit deep threat the Skins have had since Henry Ellard and I wish he was still a Redskin.

OK, I'll bite. What pretty good moves have they done via FA or trades? Peterson and Norman fell into their laps, they didn't really have to do anything with those guys (except maybe overpay Norman). Sweringer? OK. Cant really think of any other moves they did that can be heralded. Andy Reid has taken our lunch twice now.

Their current front 7 is one of the best in the NFL rt now & many of those players have been acquired in the last several years. They drafted Allen & Payne which is huge & they picked up Z. Brown in free agency for starters. BTW - I have no idea exactly who is making these moves. I am w/ you guys in terms of Bruce Allen. My pt is that this current FO is not that bad regardless of who is making the decisions. Again - I hear all of your pts about Smith & they are valid.

What I take issue with is this idea that basically the team stinks & everyone in the FO is terrible. I sure hope that you are not implying that. Fans should be getting excited about this team - at least somewhat. Sure there are some negatives, but there are also some positives.

What do you view as the positives about this team at the current time?

Fair enough. I am w/ you on Allen. It would be nice someday to see who is truly responsible for the personnel moves at Redskins Park these days - who the F knows. HTTR

I don't mean to imply anything. This Front Office led by Bruce Allen stinks. They have had a couple of very good drafts in the last few years. I will give them that. The college scouts should be recognized. But overall, this front office has made some colossal errors. Zack Brown was a guy, again, that fell into their laps. No one wanted to sign him for the money he was expecting. Either year.

As for the good, the front 3 are as good as there is in the NFL. All by the draft. The LB corps is above average, although we may have some future issues at OLB. Kerrigan is getting up there and Smith may be gone. I like our secondary, we have some youth that should only get better.

On the offensive side of the ball, you have to love Peterson. He has been the season saver this year, by far. But our depth after him is weak. Our receiving corps is very good, but Reed and Crowder can't stay healthy and they are key to any success Alex Smith might have. Our offensive line, as a unit, is above average, but have some cracks, including at LT. Williams is about done and his been beat more this year than ever. He is still performing at an acceptable level, when he is able to play.

Finally, our special teams is better now than I have seen them in the last 15 years.

But if we don't find a passing game, all our positives will be for naught. Any one dimensional offense can be shut down in the NFL. Defenses will stop our running game if we cannot pass. And we show no signs of developing a passing game that will threaten defenses to the point that they have to pull back out of the box so that Peterson can run wild. We are fortunate that we are 5-2, but I don't expect that win streak to continue unless Alex Smith comes around or we bench him for Colt.

I've looked. You can scratch all the RBs off the list because we won't need one. You can scratch all the TEs off the list because of Reed. Ansah doesn't fit our scheme. Lawrence will get tagged. KJ. Wright? Really? Tate will be 31 next year. Anybody on this board really want to pony up for Clowney? Didn't think so. I could go on, but I won't. Maybe I should have said FA sucks for what the Skins need.

oh, its Allen. He is the one making the final decisions. Doug Williams was dressed down because he brought Peterson in without consent from Allen, even though that was the best move made by this FO this year.

I am not so sure about that & really there is no proof one way or the other. Some things (not the Smith trade) have gone reasonably well lately which leads me to believe that Allen doesn't have total control at Redskins Park & there were recent reports that he has somewhat fallen out of favor w/ Snyder.

Let's hope that they get rid of Allen in the reasonably near future & whoever is making semi-decent moves continues to do so. I am w/ you in terms of the offense needing to do better, but I will also add that I have not seen a Redskins defense do this well in a very long time. Considering that some folks on this forum predicted 2-3 wins total for this team this is at least something to be optimistic about at this time.

Oh well - I will try to enjoy the good & yes I will bitch about the bad (trust me I bitch a lot but it is during game time). HTTR

Sure we don't know exactly what to expect from Dix, but these highlights for him & DJ really have me looking forward to Sunday & the rest of the season.

i think its unfair to claim that anyone "fell into our laps " the FO did its due diligence and reacted when players became available . they have drafted well

now does BA get credit for any of this ? NO

but i also think doug williams and his staff are doing good things . he called AD , got him to work out , and signed him . most people thought he was done that is due diligence and work not luck

but the litany of debacles from RG3 to KC cannot be overlooked however

I am not a fan of BA but I agree whoever and however they are making personnel decisions I think it has been as good the last few years as anytime since Dan bought the team.

My understanding is it is a committee and Gruden has a lot of say but all final decisions come down to BA if there is a tie or the committee can't agree.
