I never understood why people thought the Bears would be good right away. But this is all very predictable.

I am not saying the coaching was good, but expectations and hype far exceeded reality, and the relatively fast start for the Bears may have further set unrealistic expectations. I think everyone wants rookie Joe Burrow or CJ Stroud but most rookies are going to be up and down and most losing teams that snag such QBs are going to be deeply flawed and in need of several years of good drafts before they can contend.

Bears will probably wait until the offseason to dump Eberflus (based on their history).

The Seahawks have been better post-Waldron. Bears will probably be too, but maybe not in-season. Not everyone from the McVay coaching tree is a worthy hire.

Technically he wasn't a coach under McVay. He was more of a personal friend, sounding board, advisor, and 2nd opinion. The offensive issues that were there before he joined were still there when he left. IE: getting away form the run too quickly, sticking with plays and a game plan when it wasn't working, not having specific plays for non 11-personnel sets, adapting 11-personnel blocking schemes and check-downs when the play was run from an empty backfield. I wasn't sad to see him join a divisional rival, and that's not a good sign.

Officially, he was tight ends coach, then passing game coordinator, then QB coach (when Zac Taylor was signed away by the Bengals). Never elevated to a coordinator level (thankfully?).
