JaMarcus Russell is an absolute fat piece of garbage but with his arm talent I don't see why he couldn't be a back up in this league. He had no business being the 1st overall pick and probably should have been a 3rd rounder.

Gotta say, for a 300+ lber who clearly has not been doing any work until, oh, a couple weeks ago, he's still got pretty good athleticism. Oh, he's way out of his league in the NFL right now, but to still be able to move and throw the way he does at that size is impressive. Makes me hate him a little bit.

Shit. 5.2 in the 40 and 29 inch vertical leap is actually kind've impressive for a 300 lb man.

Strange that I kind of catch myself cheering for this guy to make a successful comeback. Especially hearing that he is training with Jeff Garcia:

JaMarcus Russell - QB - Free Agent

Free agent JaMarcus Russell has canceled his April 10 Pro Day-style workout.

He now wants to work out for teams individually. Russell, 27, is training with former longtime NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia in order to refine his passing skills and get into the 260-pound range. He weighed 310 when the comeback began, but there were reports last week that Russell still weighs near 290.

JaMarcus Russell - QB - Free Agent

According to TFY Draft Insider, the Bears and Cardinals have shown the most interest in free agent QB JaMarcus Russell.

USA Today adds the Jets to the list of teams possibly interested in the former No. 1 overall pick. Russell won't have a Pro Day, instead saying teams prefer he works out individually at their facility. Per TFY, he's down to roughly 280 pounds after weighing in at 311 when his comeback began. Russell needs to get into the 260s to be taken seriously.

JaMarcus Russell - QB - Free Agent

Mike Jurecki of XTRA910 in Phoenix says the Cardinals have "zero interest" in free agent JaMarcus Russell.

It's going to be a public relations nightmare for a team to sign one of the biggest busts in NFL draft history, so there will be plenty of interest denials around the league as Russell tries to stage his unlikely comeback bid. Regardless, the Cardinals appear content with Drew Stanton as Carson Palmer's backup. Their franchise quarterback of the future should come via the draft either this year or next, not via a player that has deservedly been out of the league since 2009.

Private workouts for JaMarcus
April, 10, 2013 8:56AM ET
By Tom Carpenter | ESPN.com

According to USAToday.com's Jim Corbettt, JaMarcus Russell "has been working six days a week since Feb. 7 with [Jeff] Garcia, TEST Academy CEO Brian Martin and former San Diego Chargers strength and conditioning coach Jeff Hurd to reach his current 15% body fat."

It was believed that Russell had a pro-day-style workout, scheduled for Wednesday, which was cancelled, but Martin said that was never the case. Instead, teams are "kind of waiting to see where his weight is, and when he gets close to weight they want to bring him in and evaluate him."

Garcia would like to see Russell end up with a team like the Chicago Bears or Arizona Cardinals, where Russell could sit as a backup and re-acclimate himself to the NFL. The New York Jets also appear to have some level of interest in the former Oakland Raiders QB.

Per DraftInsider.net, during the past couple of months, Russell has dropped his weight from 311 pounds to about 280 pounds. Apparently his goal is to get down to around 270 pounds before holding private workouts for teams. Considering the weak class of quarterbacks via free agency and the draft, it's not crazy to think that some team will give the former No. 1 overall pick a shot as a backup QB if he impresses in those workouts. Russell will turn 28 in August.

Jeff Garcia wants his student, Mark Sanchez, to do well as a starter and to get his other student, JaMarcus Russell, a backup job with the Jets, by expediting the inevitable release of Tim Tebow.

Jeff Garcia says New York Jets should trade or release Tim Tebow - ESPN New York

Not that anyone would be signing Tebow, but it's interesting that his agent didn't get him released awhile ago while backup spots were being filled. Obviously, if he could stay with the Jets, that's a job - better than being unemployed. But if he's going to be released, seems like earlier the better - again, not that I think he'd be signed. Maybe he and the agent know that he wouldn't have gotten anything, so you just stay as long as you can? This contract has to be more than his next, if he gets one, but I'm not sure what they are paid outside of the season. Are voluntary free or do they get a standard amount per show-up? Not sure when his moneys were or will be due for mandatory workouts - which are probably later than his release. The Jets, besides PR and distractions, have no reason to release him before he's owed (significant) money, if ever significant.

This is an extremely interesting story for me. If only he had worked this hard to begin with then maybe he might of made it. Of course he was extremely raw and needed tons of coaching before he would resemble anything near a starter, of course leave it to the Raiders to pick a player like that and expect him to start.

Fifteen percent body fat. Professional athlete. EOT.

But then there's also this: NFL teams want to see J-Russ lose more weight.

MCDONALDS WANTS TO SEE J-FAT LOSE MORE WEIGHT!!!!! Grimace and the Hamburgler have been complaining that J-FAT is giving them a bad rep.

Forgot to say that there's a good video that goes with this.

Watching that ESPN video, if JaMarcus was truly real, and not bullshitting, I can personally relate to how he emotionally imploded after the death of such an important and close family member. That doesn't excuse what he did in Oakland, but I can understand a bit better.

At the same time, who is gonna be able to truly flourish on a Raiders team that has been so dysfunctional? Look at SF under Nolan/Singletary vs the 1st year with Harbaalke?

Wow, Jamarcus has a real shot but literally zero interest in Vince Young. Sounds like it's time for Vince to get on with his life and from what I'm hearing, he's moved on.
