Some explanation from Evan as to why there was such a short leash for Heaney:

The official explanation: Bochy said Heaney “caught some crud,” earlier in the week in Oakland, which is Boch-ese for a cold, missed a bullpen session and the club was alert he might have a short leash.

“We were a little concerned with him and his stamina,” Bochy said. “We had a fresh bullpen. And what a job they did. I mean they just came in and picked each other up. Anderson’s double-play was a big part of the game.”

Cody Bradford allowed ten balls in play under 85 MPH off the bat, and seven became hits. Just one of those nights.

Kyle Cody's 6.59 ERA is accurate, but he's looked better lately with a little more pep in the fastball and more chases against the slider.

For now, the playing time is likely to shake down this way: Since Heim is only able to swing from the left hand side, he’s likely to only face right-handed pitching. That would give Garver the opportunity to face lefties in addition to occasionally giving Heim a break on a day game after a night game.
