The democratic tilt is the obvious answer. Isn't it funny how a Latinos are overwhelmingly in favor of socialist policies?

Please share?? Of which socialist policies are you referring to?? Look I think you know, IM republican, and I vote along those lines. But I dont think its socialist to want affordable health care. The ability to gain citizenship not based on Ethnicity, but merit of character. If those concepts are socialist, well then call me a socialist. I tend to think they are HUMANIST, more than any thing.

Latin American countries are typically much more socialist than we are. Correct? I am referring to nanny state so that is the "heritage" you are referring. Look at how much debt PR had accrued prior to the hurricanes.

Puerto Ricans are already US citizens.

Interesting thing today driving in Dothan Alabama 2 of my friends got pulled over by police . The white friend was ticketed for failure to stop at a 4 way stop . My black friend was also stopped. He got a warning . The difference? The white Friend ran his mouth while my black friend did not .

Now I will throw this out . Single parent homes cause a 72% poverty rate regardless of race. It also breeds more criminal activity (75%) higher rate then 2 parent homes regardless of race .

Laws that encourage poor choices is part of the issue . Relative silence from community leaders is huge .

The color of your skin has no bearing on your propensity to commit crime . Lack of proper parenting and role models is the biggest factor

Did you know that:

1. The United States Military is a form of Socialism?

2. Police and Fire departments are forms of Socialism?

3. The Public Education system is a form of Socialism?

Let me play the share game again. My mom saw her father kill her mother when she was five. She then lived with her literal hillbilly family where she was put in a chicken coop as punishment and had her cousins try to burn her at the stake (more like lit the pine straw at her feet on fire after tieing her to a telephone pole). She ended up with a scholarship offer to Johns Hopkins which she turned down because shockingly, she couldn't stand the sight of blood. Instead she got married and stayed married to a military man she saw die recently from dementia, I called him Dad. She has never broken the law and has received awards for her work with children with learning disabilities. Sorry, I don't buy your circumstances create who you are.

While I commend your mom for overcoming the travails in her life, what you've written is exactly an example of circumstances influencing (creating) who you are.

Did she not, survive the murder of a loved one? torture by relative hillbillies? having turned down a scholarship because of her fear of blood? a marriage that ended because of a debilitating life taker? Yet through it all, she was never cited for breaking the law.

Well, let's see how all of that influenced who she ultimately became. You tell us the she has received awards for her work with children with learning disabilities. Ask her if her life's work was influenced/created by the shit that she endured as a child. I already know the answer to this because her story is very similar to my own and that of many other health care workers.

Never breaking the law is another example of this, because in life we learn and by learning we choose that which is most familiar to us. Just as a thief is taught to be a thief by thieves, so too, is someone who has experienced torture, prone to avoid circumstances where punishment results.

One other thing, we also learn what NOT to do by our own experiences, I learned how to be a decent father by never having either parent in my life beyond the age of 10. Therefore, it doesn't surprise me that your mom did the exact opposite of what her experiences were, relative to staying with her husband until the end.

It influenced who she became but she became who she is by the choices she made.

The choices available to her were likely influenced by where she was as well.

I know, but dude acts as if humans come complete at birth, therefore we are merely left with choices without the input/ influence that comes with circumstance and environment.

Well bro, I was a bit too tired yesterday to ask him to expand on this comment??

But I guess I will ask now. Lets assume that your statements about Latino's being socialist sympathizers is correct. Does this give cause to treat 2.5 million citizens as if they had committed some felony?? And by that I mean Puerto Rico is the ONLY place where you can be a citizen, have committed no crime, but do not have the right to vote. And before you say its because they arent a state, neither is DC.

The choices were made.

Criminals make their choices.

i'm a big believer in free will and freedom of choice

but i am not casting stones or calling folks "criminals" when they steal food from the grocery store to feed themselves

this is how my brother in laws raised themselves

As you have most eloquently shown, right from wrong is more often than not a matter of ones perspective.

Choices are made from the options available to a particular individual.

People L.E.A.R.N right from wrong depending on what that is, relative to their life's circumstance and environment. Your "right" can easily be my "wrong" and vice versa. Who's to judge?

Influence and choice are NOT independent of one another.

The reason they cannot vote is they are a territory and have no electoral votes.
