Where are all of our posters who claim that there is no such thing as systematic racism, or that racism is in and of itself is not a system? You guys have grown awfully quiet on this one. Should I open up a new topic?

Dare I ask you and all good people of "faith", what good are laws when they unnecessarily destroy the people?
Shouldn't we spend every moment of our lives honoring those that kept this country going by fighting to improve it, by, fighting to improve it further?
No...you should be specific and defend your statement.
Do they unnecessarily destroy people or are the people already damaged?
It seems that in my entire lifetime, I've actually had interactions with 3 undamaged people. In a strange twist of fate, I met all three here. Weird huh?
It is virtually impossible to talk about the Prison Industrial Complex and not be able to see that as a extremely specific example of systemic racism. How's that for defending it?
There are sooo many more examples of this, all just like the PIC, touch every aspect of life in this country. Unless you're saying that it is not an example of systemic racism, then as promised I'll try to help you as best I can to see it.
I just don't see the PIC as a systemic racism issue. Yes, there is a disproportionate amount of black people in prison, but I see it as a behavioral issue. They are not in there because they are treated differently because of their race. They are in there for breaking the law.
Again, there are many factors that go far beyond race for the disproportionate figure. I would say the number one reason high rate of black incarceration is growing up outside a two parent household. From there, I would say socioeconomic status would play a large role but is very dependent on first reason. Education would be way up there as well. Now, if we take care of those three factors, then we can talk race because those three factors don't know racial boundaries.
YOu know, thats an interesting statement.
So here is my take, aside from physical birth defects no one is BORN damaged, or inferior. People that become damaged, generally become that way due to situations they are put in. In alot of cases they are in those situations not because of choice, but circumstance. Most of the people that are considered inferior tend o belong to specific ethnic groups.
So having established that, and that we have done damn near all we can to prevent or correct birth defects....
Would it not stand to reason that the two best things we could do for society as a whole would be
1. Eliminate the circumstances that generally LEAD to these people becoming damaged.
2. Correct the social mind set that makes it OK for some one to be considered inferior based on things like race, religion or sexual preference??
Let me play the share game again. My mom saw her father kill her mother when she was five. She then lived with her literal hillbilly family where she was put in a chicken coop as punishment and had her cousins try to burn her at the stake (more like lit the pine straw at her feet on fire after tieing her to a telephone pole). She ended up with a scholarship offer to Johns Hopkins which she turned down because shockingly, she couldn't stand the sight of blood. Instead she got married and stayed married to a military man she saw die recently from dementia, I called him Dad. She has never broken the law and has received awards for her work with children with learning disabilities. Sorry, I don't buy your circumstances create who you are.
1- you can't eliminate the ills of the Earth.
2- very few believe people are inferior based on those characteristics and you can't fix those people without proving their impressions wrong.
Agreed you cant eliminate the ills of the earth, but by turning a blind to them because they dont affect you. You can ADD to them.
If the way our fucking President handled his visit to Puerto Rico vs the way he acted when he visited FL and Tx doesnt tell you that some people, and he in particular does consider some people inferior based on nothing more than race.. then you will never get it. His attitude towards non-whites is a direct result of a culture and mind set in this country that quietly accepts that one ethnic group holds more value than all others.
BY the way, I congratulate you mom for rising above what sounded like a shitty situation. But for every one of those, there is a woman who face similar 9or worse) and did in fact turn to drugs, prostitution or dependence on the system.
I just don't believe driving my head into a tree over and over is a good idea.
What did he do in his visit to PR that you are referring?
Worse? Really? It was their choice to turn to things they know are bad.
1. Statistics can and are manipulated to make ones point all the time.
2. Its real easy to use statistics to justify systematic ills that no one wants to admit to.
Based on statistics, atleast ONE of me or my brothers should be locked up or dead by now. Out of six boys five are still alive, none have gone to jail, and the one that is dead, died in a car crash. But I guess we all just bucked that whole single moms odds thing huh??
really dude, come on. In Florida and Texas he actually took the time to TALK to the victims of the Hurricanes, handed out food.
IN the PR visit, his grand gesture was to throw paper towel to the displaced mexicans as if he was making jump shots. His comments about Florida and Texas... we will do everything we can to help the American people recover.
His statement in PR... Puerto Rico is costing us alot of Money right now.
I am a realist. Every time the wind blows Puerto Rico is damaged. You can't keep throwing money at places that keep getting destroyed.
Trump launches paper towel rolls into crowd in Puerto Rico
Trump did pass out food by the way and spoke with the people. Don't believe the race baiting hype.
@gkekoa Riddle me this Batman..... Puerto Rico has been a US Territory since 1898. 4 times including this year they have overwhelmingly voted as a populace to to become a state as apposed to a territory of the United States. Now as a state they would be liable to pay US Federal Taxes. The only thing holding this up has been congress.
So aside from a population that is 98% of Latino heritage, why would our government NOT make them a state??
