So, it was a lifetime ban, right. So HOF class of 2025 while some of us and his family are still alive?

A scumbag who got more hits than anybody.

He should've been in a long time ago
If they put Reggie in, there is no reason to keep Rose out.

And Reggie attempted to kill the queen literally in the middle of a game.

Those stats actually kind of show how overrated he was. 1st in hits, great. 465th in OPS+ LOL 26th in caught stealing.

He was a singles hitter who played forever. Big deal.

But he did win MVP and 3 titles and lots of all star appearances (17) from 5 different positions (a MLB record) and a couple Gold Gloves. I'm ok if he gets in now that he's dead but until the HOF puts Bonds and Clemens in I don't really care what they do.

Never was one of my favorites because of the way he behaved but you gotta respect the man as a player

I love BR's HoF comparisons.. And, I love that at the peak of his career, he was like Johnny Damon (with worse hair)...

MSG covered this well, but I will add…

I don’t think anyone argues that Pete (as a player, ignoring the noise) is a HOF level player. It can be argued how high on the list he deserves to be, but few would claim that his numbers don’t deserve the enshrinement.

His question is about “the noise”. And reasonable people can come to different conclusions about how that should be treated. Personally, I believe he is STILL banned. And his transgression is TOO big to ever “get my vote”. But I am much less adamant about keeping him out now that he has passed. While he will not be getting my support, this is no longer a hill I am willing to die on.

Permanently ineligible. Means forever. Rob Manfred could lift the ban but he's never shown an inkling to do so
well. maybe he should have chosen his words more carefully, especially now that he sold out the sould of baseball and every stadium in the league has legalized gambling. Pete kept promoting baseball til the end.

I was a big Reds fan growing up, living about an hour's drive away.
Every year on the day of the All Star game, the Reds ran a clinic in Dayton that I went to.

In 1971, Pete didn't make the roster, so he showed up at the clinic.
I don't remember his intensity level being any different than what I would have expected, watching him on TV for years.

He ran one (very impressive) drill where he lined up in a cutoff position behind 2nd base, with two outfielders throwing balls to him.
There was a fielder on every base, and one person yelling to him which base to throw while each ball was in the air.

The funniest part was the home run "derby" at the end. The clinic was held at a stadium used for high school games. As best I recall, the foul lines were something like 260 and center field 320. There was a right field "porch" that Bernie Carbo didn't have any problem reaching. IIRC he was there every year I attended the clinic. When it was Pete's turn, he was having a comically difficult time getting one to carry over the fence. He finally turned around right-handed and managed to get one to just carry by a few feet.
