Spaling has to be old by now, right?

Wow. I think this might be the worst move Shero has made in the last 5 years.

God damn that return sucks. Management must have really hated Neal because that trade does not improve the team. But how is that the best return for an under contract, young, 40g and sometime ppg player?

Shero signing looks stupid as fuck now. Rutherturd sucks.

After the backlash from the Cooke bullshit, the writing was on the wall for Neal plain and simple. The organization isn't going to be embarrassed by douchebag players again.

Sad to see Horny & Spals go but this is a good pickup for the Perds

Fine, that might be true? But what's the rush? Why not shop him around? Wait until the bug FAs are gone and then trade him to someone desperate for scoring?

He's under contract and there were no draft picks involved, so why today? Makes no sense to me. Take your time and let the bidding start.

F'ing brutal.

I like this trade.. esp if we sign Spaling... Pens get two quality players for the cost of one goal scorer.

Hornqvist was 2nd on the team in goals scored amongst forwards and led the team in points amongst forwards... do not look at his numbers, Preds play a defensive game... but look at his placement on the team...

Spaling.... again on a defensive team.. scored just as many goals and had more points as Sutter...

I can not imagine their output will decline on the Penguins... the Pens got a replacement for Neal.. and upgraded their 3rd line... again, assuming Spaling resigns...

Pretty much how I see this deal. Neal is flashier but Hornqvist is a very effective player. Like a better Tomas Holmstrom. I could see him excelling on the Pens, particularly in the playoffs.

Spaling is solid and could be a 20 goal per year 3rd liner on the Pens.

Yep agreed with both of you, it's amazing that Jim Rutherford actually made a decent hockey deal for once

Hornqvist is the type of player they need, someone who gets in the dirty areas and won't back down(Tocc will love him) - and Nick Spaling gives them some speed too - it should give them some more depth

It won't necessarily help their cap situation but it is a decent 2 for 1 deal - they'll still have to do something most likely - probably have to depend on a lot of their young d-men because they won't have much money to give to others

I kind of like it. I've always liked Hornqvist. I think he's the sort of player the Penguins have been missing, and he'll slot in just about anywhere in the lineup. Spaling has some upside, too.

Neal was a doofus. He was a gifted goal scorer so long as he was being set up, but he took dumb penalties all the time, wasn't very defensively responsible, and couldn't create for himself. He's simply not the same player without an elite playmaker on his line, and I think a lot of teams knew that.
