What justification does the NFL have in punishing a team and player for restructuring a contract. Steelers just did it with Ben.

The Steelers did it with a bunch of guys. The Giants did it with Eli & released Jacobs when they couldn't come to an agreement on a restructured deal. I don't understand all the rules & regulations, but obviously the Redskins & Cowboys got nailed.

The league is nailing them for using the uncapped year to pay off bad contracts. What's wrong with that? It is well within the rules. The dumbass ginger commissioner left that loophole there. I would be shocked if this holds up though.

Skins and boys did it during the uncapped year, which the league instructed teams not to do... they didn't listen :nono:

I couldn't tell you what exactly went wrong...no idea the interworkings. I'm sure ESPN will have some detailed explanation soon enough. Very rough though. That's a LOT of money. They're lucky that the rookie cap is in place now.

They can divide it up any way they wish too. So if they want to put it off until next year they can, just have a large hole to fill.

Ahhh, circumvention, eh?

Is it circumvention. The out of pocket money didn't change. There was no cap. That was the NFLs fault. It was a gamble by the team that payed off. It is not like Haynesworth didn't get paid. No way Snyder lets this happen. He paid the dude.

It's only 18 per year. That's not too bad.

When a team gives up 1st round picks they need all the cap space they can get to improve their team. That's 36M over the next two seasons that could have been used to make the Redskins better. Trust me it hurts, BIG TIME.

I agree.. it is their problem. I bet Snyder and Jerrah get out of this, yet

I don't think the point of circumvention is to not pay the player, it's manipulating the system/situation in an illegal fashion so that you're able to pay the same amount but fit less under the cap. If the league told them not to do it and they did, there's no excuse. I don't know if the league did, but if they did they're perfectly allowed to penalize the teams that ignored them. If it were more confusing I'd think there'd be more than two teams penalized. Seems fairly clear cut to me, but I haven't read up on it much.
