Mark May made a good point:

If you trade away the future to get the guy, then you can't surround him with the talent needed to develop into a great player. They have plenty of money to work with, but you do have to attract suitors.

On Sanchez:

"Going through it right now, of QB's currently in the league, I have Sanchez ranked 12th on a list of who I'd want."
"Who I'd want ahead of Sanchez: Brady, Roethlisberger, Schaub, Rivers, Eli, Rodgers, Cutler. Stafford. Cam, Brees, Ryan."

That's prettttty accurate to how I feel. Feel bad for anyone that needs to resign/sign a QB in the future. *coughBREEScough*

lol at the Skins.
I hate that we'll have another running QB in the NFC East, but we're already used to Vick, so the game plan ought to be similar.
Tuck, Osi, JPP and the boys will be ready to introduce him to the NFL.

Good job St. Louis!
3 first rounders? Skins must have a 5 year plan. lol
Getting three first rounders form a team who will most likely have high pickes for those three years...
I remember once a team parlayed a guy named Walker into a similar influx of fist rounders like that.... which turned into Aikman, Irvin and Smith.
That worked out ok.

So the Rams could still get the play making receiver they need, they have a new coach that knows what he is doing, and they have 2 extra first rounders and a 2nd rounder to mess around with (maybe they trade those, maybe they use them). Could this be the Herschel Walker trade 2.0?

lol
guess I should learn to read the thread first sometimes

I would rather have seen them just reach a little on Tannehill and use those picks to meet other needs we have mostly b/c I think quarterbacks are really hard to predict. There are plenty of Heismann winners and top QB picks that never even become legitimate starters, much less Pro Bowlers. But I also think Griffin is very talented, smart, and can move, so it could end up working. It's just a big risk. Then again, when you've sucked as long as we have, sometimes taking a big risk is needed. So I'm not happy about it, but I also think it could end up being the right move and don't think it's LOL worthy. Someone earlier is correct, it's not THREE #1 picks. It's only two. Not even close to Herschel Walker trade territory.

It's three. Look at the draft as if the first two picks are already made - Luck and then RG3. The Rams trade away RG3 and get a pick this year, a pick next year, and a pick the year afterwards (not to mention the second rounder this year). Just because the first two picks are similar doesn't make it better for the Skins - in fact it makes it worse.

I kind of agree with this...they didn't HAVE to get a 1st back for this year. Regardless, it's overpayment to move down 4 freaking spots. I'm fairly convinced I could run an NFL franchise at this point.

I am coming to grips with the trade. The price was steep for sure, but the Redskins almost had to make this move. Quarterbacks make this league, and are few and far between.

Three things make this a bit less of a risk than it would have been 5 years ago:

1. The rookie salary structure will protect th Redskins in paying for him. He will make 20 million over four years, not 50 million. If he is a bust, it does not kill us long term.

2. The Redskins have at least 41 million to spend to fill some holes. They need a couple of receivers, and O lineman, but they are set at LT and C, and have a few young wideouts with experience (Hankerson, Paul, Austin). Hopefully Chris Cooley is back, 100%, or they need to re-sign Fred Davis (which they likely will). A tight end is a quarterback's best friend and those are two good ones.

3. The Redskins are not a terrible team. They have a solid front seven in defense and exceptional pass rushers in Orakpo and Kerrigan. They are not a complete disaster of a team. This is a team that beat the Giants twice last year.

Do I like the move, it is to early to tell. I want to see how the Redskins spend their money first. Apparently, if it was not going to be the two firsts, it was going to have to be Orakpo and/or Kerrigan. Fuck that. I will trade draft picks before young studs anyday. It is a risk, and it was expensive, but hell, it may work.

Wow look out for the NFC West in a few years. The 49ers, Seahawks and Cardinals are all young teams on the way up and with these picks the Rams will be able to restock very quickly.

Maybe not, but they aren't a good team thats for sure; they went 2-10 in the last 12 games. Yes they beat the Gaints twice last year, but 1 of them was in week 1 where its a bit of a crapshoot.

I understand wanting a franchise QB. However, this is almost as bad as the Herschel Walker trade. If the Rams get the WR they want anyway it will look even worse.

The Vikings traded 5 players, three second round picks three first round picks and two more picks for an aging running back. This is nowhere near that.

This is swapping picks, and throwing in 2 more #1s, and a #2, and no players....

Giving up 1st round picks is stupid. Trust me Bobby Beathard destroyed the Chargers franchise because of it. It took years before the Chargers recovered. I expect thanks to the Redskins the Rams will be picking in the top 10 next year. Heck they could end up with 2 top ten picks next year. The Rams are going to get good in a hurry. Jeff Fisher will make sure of that.

The Skins also gave up their 2nd round pick this year. It's a brutal deal.
