Watching NHL classic. 1977 Montreal vs. Boston game 4 of the SCF. Watched most of the 3rd period and there has been absolutely ZERO body checking going on. No attempt to even do so. Guys doing their best to AVOID making contact. Very weird seeing this type of play.

Going into OT right now tied at 1

I watched the deciding game of the 76 finals between Montreal and Philly on NHL yesterday, and I was struck by how slow the game seemed. The hits were less as well.

And the goaltending was... sad.

I remembered the game being so much more exciting back then. Kinda wonder what it's going to look like when my son is the age I am now. Yikes.

Oh Eklund, keep the laughs coming:

I am hearing of talks between NJ and Toronto that center around Dion Phaneuf. Never underestimate defense and toughness to Lou.

Only problem with the above statement is Phaneuf isn't tough and doesn't know how to play defense.

I like it. Glad it's done. The only player left to sign is Thomas Hickey.

I shouldn't like it because it hurts the Devils, but it's really nice to see the Isles locking guys up. Notice how patient they can be with their top tier prospects now that they don't need to throw them to the wolves. I think it'll pay off big time once those guys are ready to make the jump.

From what I understand Strome had a GREAT prospect camp. He's grown an inch & added muscle to his frame. He's working out with JT this offseason. Training camp just got a bit more interesting because the Isles have a lot of depth at forward. Brock Nelson is expected to make the opening night roster.

James Patrick has joined the Dallas Stars as an assistant coach, reuniting with former boss and coach Lindy Ruff.

Patrick spent the past seven seasons on Ruff's staff in Buffalo. Patrick also played the last seven of his 21 seasons as an NHL defenceman for the Sabres and Ruff.

Ruff, fired by the Sabres in February, became the Stars' coach last month.

Patrick worked for Ruff from 2006-13. Patrick finished out last season in Buffalo with coach Ron Rolston.
