Andy McDonald has decided to call it a career...Probably would have put up even better numbers if he hadn't missed so many games due to concussion issues.

NHLonTSN: Andy McDonald has retired from the #NHL

Big Buff is blowing up:

Dustin Byfuglien is going to be mentioned in trade talks as the NHL draft draws closer and the talking point that will be raised again and again is his weight.

It was evident Byfuglien grew heavier this season as the games moved on and according to accredited Jets blogger Pete Tessier, the player's weight rose to 302 pounds by season's end.

If there's any truth to this number, Byfuglien is virtually untradeable. Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff can't engage in trade talks with another GM and keep Byfuglien's weight off the table until the very end -- then hit his colleague with an, "oh, by the way, Buff's a little big right now."

Meh; just tell them that he's still young(ish), it's a glandular thing & that he'll grow out of it. :D

Seriously, though; that's almost 40 pounds over his listed weight on the team website roster. How the heck does someone put that much on while playing hockey several nights a week for four months?

What I can't figure out is how you pack on that much weight when you're playing 25+ minutes of hockey every other night plus practices. Buff's weight has always fluctuated, but this seems kinda crazy.

I couldnt find the ongoing ball hockey thread

VIDEO: Player goes crazy at World Ball Hockey Championships - CBSSports.com

and yah ... I admit ... when i saw the headline the first thing that came to mind was Alex Burrows must be playing ball hockey again

Whoa.... so a couple things:

- had no idea 'ball hockey' was a thing.. or that it existed.
- what happened to the ref? I re-watched a couple times and couldn't see any punch landing on him...
- this dude's name sounds too much like Dustin Penner

up until a couple years ago Alex Burrows played offseason ball hockey (Canadian Ball Hockey Association - 2005 Award Winners) cdn national tournament MVP in 2005 ... canucks told him to stop

Joe Sakic used to play ball hockey in the summers after his first couple years in the NHL

Mama Jim Thornton too

Who, if anybody, are the Sharks likely to buyout? Is Marleau a candidate?

I'd imagine Big Mama is a candidate.

And for a reasonable contract, I'd accept the Jackets taking a chance on him. And by reasonable, I mean 2 years at a quarter of whatever hes making.

Ah, so you're saying he'll be traded to the Rangers at the draft?

Got it.
