Damn it, I wanted the Oilers to overpay for Mark and head Streit into the gutter...

That ship sailed when Krueger was fired. Don't worry Holmgren will overpay him instead. Word is the Flyers are willing to give Streit a 4 year deal. LOL!!

By the way the Isles get a 4th round pick in 2014.

DarrenDreger: While the Flyers work on a contract for Mark Streit, preliminary discussions on extending Claude Giroux's contract have also begun. #TSN

Dave Isaac ‏@davegisaac 3h The #Flyers can only spend about $917K on next season without making a trade or buyout. Can only go over cap by 10% in offseason.

Dave Isaac ‏@davegisaac 3h In other words, Mark Streit won't be signed at least until buyout period (48 hours after deciding game of Cup Final)Retweeted by CapGeek

Giroux's agent, Pat Brisson, did not respond to phone calls, but he must have smiled when Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin signed an eight-year deal Thursday for $76 million. The deal starts in 2014-15 and carries an average cap hit of $9.5 million.

Giroux doesn't yet have Malkin's pedigree - the Penguins' star has an MVP award and has won two scoring titles - but he is considered one of the NHL's premier players.

If a new deal is consummated, it will undoubtedly make Giroux the Flyers' highest-paid player. Based on the market, he probably will average between $7 million and $8 million per season in a long-term deal.

In Friedman's 30 thoughts, he's thinking both the Oilers and Flames might go after Bernier.

/Does Elliotte know that the Flames already have 5-6 goalies on the payroll?

There are going to be some big moves at the Draft...too many teams with too much money on the books. The "big" teams too. We're in for some competitive hockey next year (as if this year wasn't).

Wow, imagine if there was a team that played really well with what they have, still has a lot of cap space AND 3 draft picks. They could clean up if they had one of the best hockey minds architecting their team.

I definitely see some of "those" teams having a lot of success next year.
