1st under the post-season surgeon's knife? :noidea:

Backstrom has hernia surgery

Jackets have had a whole floor at OSU Medical center reserved for them.

Calvert, Atkinson, Dubinski, Nikitin, Tyutin, Gaborik and Foligno all had some kind of injury or another.

Although, I think only Gaborik actually had surgery.

Sabres re-sign fourth-line forward Scott to one-year deal

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed rugged fourth-line forward John Scott to a one-year contract.

Listed at 6-foot-8 and 270 pounds, Scott had no points and 69 penalty minutes in 34 games last season. The Sabres acquired Scott by signing him to a one-year contract in free agency last summer to add size and grit to their roster.

He split the 2011-12 season with Chicago and the New York Rangers. He broke into the NHL in 2008-09, and played his first two seasons with the Minnesota.

Over five seasons, Scott has a goal and four assists and 305 penalty minutes in 180 career games.

The team announced the signing on Monday morning.

Okay; I know that 4th liners aren't going to have 1st/2nd liner stats, but one goal in five seasons and averaging one penalty per game?

I think that it's safe to say why they want him. :)

Someone must have hacked Owen Nolan's twitter account:

EDIT: Or he left his computer/ipad/whatever laying around and his daughter picked it up...

This will probably be their big off-season signing for the year :L

Hah.. thanks!

(still can't like the guy but would love to have him on the team if they can agree on the money and it not being a huge overpayment -- nobody go check what Doug Wilson is paying Burish, please!)

If our pal Raffi is going to stay in the league, I would prefer he gets picked up by a non-playoff team.

It'll be a decent signing until he sneezes near a ref and gets suspended for 347 games.

With the Competition Committee set to convene on Tuesday in Toronto at the NHL’s offices, it was announced Saturday that David Backes (St. Louis Blues), Cory Schneider (Vancouver Canucks), Michael Cammalleri (Calgary Flames), Ron Hainsey (Winnipeg Jets) and Alex Pietrangelo (St. Louis Blues) will represent the members of the NHLPA as the player contingent at the meeting. Mathieu Schneider, the NHLPA’s Special Assistant to the Executive Director, who is a non-voting member of the Competition Committee, will chair the meeting.

so it's up to Schneider to keep the rest of the guys from cutting down goalie pad sizes.
no pressure, kid.

All he has to do is push to require shields, flatten all stick blades, get rid of composites and require high cuff gloves. They'll be so distracted they won't even bring it up.

So, the Penguins will be in the market for a goalie in an off season when Luongo, Bryzgalov and Miller are the ones available.

So will the Flyers. And if they stand pat, they must rely on Mason.

The Devs struggled. And Marty will probably hang 'em up.

Ovechkin backchecks like THIS when it counts:
1621022e6e4368dbd658e9ab85416670_large

and the Rangers could be coached by Lindy Ruff or Mark Messier.

Suddenly, I am not so afraid of coming to that division.

Marty has 1 year left on his contract.

As for the trade market for goalies it's stacked. Jaroslav Halak is definately available from the Blues. Anaheim could trade Jonus Hiller. Both will be UFA's at the end of the season. The #1 goalie on the trade market however is a backup. The happiest GM in the league if more teams need goalies will be Dean Lombardi. The price for Jonathan Bernier isn't going down anytime soon.

As for the UFA's there's Mike Smith, Nicklas Backstrom, Ray Emery, Anton Khudobin & Thomas Greiss to name a few.

I'd take any of the ones I mentioned on the Islanders instead of the three you did, considering their contracts.
