No loophole here.

I hadn't really looked at Jankowski's performance until now but now that I have I think there's some question as to whether the Flames would have been better off taking the 2nd round compensation pick instead. This way the asset they get is further along in his development of course, but I still think I'd rather have the 2nd rounder. I suppose that there's some "oh my god they didn't sign their first rounder what a disaster!" aspect to it as well but the pick that they used on Jankowski is a sunk cost at this point.

Meh. He was (or should have been) always a project. He was so underdeveloped when drafted that it was always going to take a while.

He's just put up a nice season in NCAA so may the Flames feel he's ready to benefit from some pro coaching. 51st overall is basically a nothing asset anyway (something like 20% chance of becoming an NHL regular). Might be worth it if the Flames wanted to take a homerun swing with the 51st and/or wanted to delay paying for a player who has a good chance of never being an NHL contributor. just generally meh I'd say though.

Or maybe the Flames are gambling that someone will give Feaster a GM job somewhere and then Calgary will have the best trading chip (other than actual potato chips) that Feaster could ever overpay for.

I just like the fact that the Flames have been able to cross the finish line with NCAA drafted guys like Johnny Hockey and now Janko. I guess I'm hoping that other NCAA hockey players take note of the Flames and realize that Calgary may be a not bad destination. Who knows, maybe the Flames can get lucky and uncover another NCAA gem down the road?

Jankowskis "dad" has been more or less fully "credited" with burning that pick on him ... Insidiously persuading feaster to do it (maybe with pie :noidea: )

He works for the canucks now

:pout:

I'm now predicting the Leafs finish 3rd-last. I'm honestly astonished at how efficient the Canucks were in tanking considering they've basically had the same roster all season. Slide, sure, but what's happening there right now is making the Tortorella regime seem like the good times.

You can tell it's getting to the Sedins, calling out teammates for lack of effort and Daniel shoved Tommy Wingels from behind into the boards last night, the Swedes are angry.

but seriously though this poster on hfboards is legit Chris Higgins brother and the room is big time divided ... i wouldnt have thought vets versus kids would have become a thing with the sedins around

That is surprising to hear. I know Willie D got the dreaded vote of confidence from Lord Linden a little while ago, but you wonder if he actually will be back coaching the team in September.
