Exactly the contract is the killer.

At pick #30 and in this years draft class, i would do it in a second if not for the salry cap problem. Only way i would not think about doing it is if we had our sights set on trading out of the first round to get another first for next yr.

Pitt just saved a ton of money by reworking Hampton's deal too. A team would have to break bread in that first year. It takes a team with a lot of cap space, a WR need, and a low first round pick.

I honestly believe Smith is waiting for our FA spending to end to give the 49ers a cap friendly contract. It just makes sense when you consider the relationships that exist between Smith and our FO.

Perhaps Smith worked a deal that if he waited and took a cap friendly contract that he would get an extra year out of the deal - not at all implausible.

Smith has the same agent as Peyton Manning so I'm sure his agent is waiting for Manning to sign, not that Smith will get that kind of money but Manning sets the market for QB's atleast starting quality QB's.

You're thinking is clear, but I just don't see Mannings contract having any influence on Smith's. If Smith's contract was stacked against anyone's, it was probably Fitzpatricks. If I'm right, then Smith's market has been established.

I've never considered this before, but what about going after Jamaal Anderson in the spirit of cashing in on former top 11 picks? He might finally work out in a 3-4.

NFL:

"Niners release Spencer, woo Manningham, Lloyd on visits"

So we woo'ed Manningham & Lloyd.

So I just found out that Aaron Maybin is an URFA. I say lock him up to a long term deal. Could be a bargain. I'd have to start sayig the Niners do well with former top 12 picks though.

Maybin and Tyler Brayton are must signs IMO. Kind of like Alan Branch and Richie Incognito should've been last year (or was that the year before w/ Richie?).

Maybin is a restricted free agent who got tendered at his original round which is the first round.

While I'm throwing out randumb, sometimes inaccurate statements about FAs...

I would love it if everyone ignores one of the most underrated players in the NFL: Brodrick Bunkley. He'd be an amazing pickup if the NFL ignores him.
