The write up I read indicated he is just that, for some reason I get a Login Mankins from him. At 6'6" I can't see him as a Center in the NFL
Best research I could get on Joe about his arm length was that his arms are too short for NFL Tackle (Isiaha Wynn)
One expert projected his arms to be 34+, which would mean he has ideal size at OT.
This will be settled at the combine. There are plenty of OT's that survive at OT at 33+arm length. It would mean that he has backup potential at every OL position. - possible star at center! Think BB would like that?

But I like the versatility. ALWAYS good to have a backup plan....and a plan c...sometimes the shit (injuries) hits the fan repeatedly.
I was thinking this even if he is converted to RG or RT if he can play C too that is win win win

Tippman is a solid pick at center!

Aside from rookie traits that can be coached, the biggest complaint the "experts" have against him is that he is "too tall"
Too tall? Many of the best centers are guys that can't make it a OT.
I'd say any team that needs a center NOW, should take this guy in the 2nd.....

Looks like we'll have 20 3rd round draft picks!
I think the height thing is that he would lose leverage in the NFL

I too love the term “mauler” for any O-line position. 6’6” is awfully tall for a center. But if he excelled in college at that position I’m sure he could do the same in the Pros. Him and Strange would be a very athletic duo.

I appreciate everyone's patience Thank you Southie for having my back (twice) and Sharky for accommodating by posting a day early.

Here's for tomorrow:

Steve Avila, C, TCU

I'd prefer waiting for the fourth, but it'll probably take the 3rd to get him and there's not enough value to use a better pick. He played a lot of competitive games and has the versatility the Pat's always love. Andrew has missed time the last few years and maybe he has a few more in him, but if he doesn't we'd have his replacement. Until them he still can be useful.

Joe Tippman

6’6” 317 lbs

Center

Wisconsin Badgers

Round Projection 3

As a Freshman he played in one game for 11 snaps, as a sophomore 2021 he played in 12 games 687 snaps he gave up 2QB hurries, 2 QB hits, and zero sacks. His junior year 12 games 758 snaps 2 QB hurries, 2 QB hits and one sack.

Strengths: Huge man and an absolute mauler, constantly finish blocks, reacts well to twists and stunts, posses the strength to combat bigger defensemen. 635 squat and a 455 pound bench again a very powerful man also athletic for his size he clocked a 4.31 pro agilty time, 1.65 yard split faster than any O linemen at the combine this year. Decent feet great hand strength a high motor effort guy. Plays really well in space and an outstanding pull blocker, Moved fluidly in pass protection wide bas great core strength.

Weaknesses: At 6”6” may be to tall for the position shorter defenders can get under his hands and win the leverage battle. Does not play with ideal balance, needs to watch his discipline had 6 penalties in 2022 (Coachable?), plays high footwork is currently average but coachable. At 317 he is lean could add more mass.

Because of his great athleticism and strength his is an excellent pro prospect , high football IQ, may be converted to G or OT which would only make him more versatile a player, something BB covets.

I think it's logical to compare the same position players as we post, especially when the players line up at the same draft slot.

It's round 3 and both of these guys are there.... Who should we pick?

I could not really say Tippman to me feels like a bit of an anomaly. He is tall for a center so to me the question is do I want a true center or a guy that can play center and maybe guard or RT. RT may be a stretch the footwork is so different.

Both are good. I think I’m taking Avila. Plus we have the same 1st. name. So he’s got to be cool as fuck!

I know nothing about this guy but I agree it's a position of need.

I know nothing about this guy but I agree it's a position of need.

That brings up an interesting question: What are our positions of need?

The simple answer is all of them since every position requires depth. Then there's value: anytime you can draft a guy that can replace another expensive guy you give the team the ability to buy someone else for another "position of need". Some positions need more time to develop so having a stable of developing talent is important too (what if we didn't allow Edelman time to develop).

I agree with Edge. to contrast, RB always seems to be a position of need, but right now more of a very late need and possibly just UDFA. Interior lineman seem to be in need, but every team could use better OTs, at least for depth.

Monster against the pass - terrible against the run.
He is expected to go round 1 or 2.
If he falls, could he improve his rushing defense? He shows nothing against the run.
If I'm opposing offense, when I see him in the defense I'm handing the ball off!

Prospect of the day...a day 2 pick. Cornerback Kelee Ringo.

Really, I know nothing about him short of what I have read while trying to do some research on finding a pick for today.

Big for the position at 6'2" and as heavy as 215 lbs. Fast at a projected 4.35 40.

The part that jumped out to me was
At his best in man coverage, moving down to guard tight ends and some bigger slot receivers.

My mind instantly though Travis Kelce.

This is great pick but would likely have to be done with the #14, but because I see it as a position of immediate need I am cool with that.

My immediate need picks are

OT
WR
CB

I see Oline as biggest need as well. OT and TE. We have two TE's that are either capable and under utilized or incapable.
I am not against drafting a WR early, but am skeptical. I would rather go big TE.
If we got a good OT at 14, then will Ringo be available at 46. Or even 76?

I think Ringo can go round one early two IMO. So much depends on FA and new schemes what will BOB set up and what pieces does he need to make that work?
