can't think of any that have served the long term interests of the team
Well, by definition they wouldn't serve the long term interests of the team. If your goal is to make the postseason then the Desmond one year deal was a very good one.

I guess one way they could serve the long term interests of the team is if they are traded away at deadline time for prospects who can help us out for years to come.

You've got Darvish on a pedestal that I just can't see.
I might be. That could very well be the case. I do think he is a very special pitcher. We will find out this coming season if he is still as special as I think he is though.

I do think some overrate the other two guys I mentioned at times as well though.

I purposed waited to reply to his post. Was waiting on you to show up.

That was my thoughts to a T. Long term benefit on a one year contract is a contradiction in terms isn't it? And Desmond immediately came to my mind as well.

Don't know if this is a compliment to ya or not though. ha ha

just don't see it as beneficial. Prospects are just that prospects and loading and reloading every year hurts the consistence and team chemistry

desmond shows my point he served as positive for one season which now turns into a negative with us forced to rebuild again

He is replaced by Gomez and LF will likely be Rua/ Maz depending on Choo. We just did not elect to pay his price and did not need to. So what's your point? He served the need we had. We are not having to rebuild in Desmond's case.

Sorry Scotty.....But if he serves your point; perhaps you're pointless.

And even "if" your point was rock solid. Desmond is a perfect "counter point" of the team not suffering, in fact, quite the opposite with that one year deal.

Both sides made out quite well IMO.

there we disagree. Maz will be rf, gomez will be in cf and choo at dh. There is a hole in lf and if they use choo in rf and move maz to lf then there is a hole at dh. And there is still 1B to be filled. And then there is hole in the sp. There are too many holes to expect the team to be consistent without addressing them. But then we can fill them with 1 year deals and then repeat the process next season and then again do it

Remember Profar? Don't want to argue with your negative outlook. Out!

Best batting practices with son getting ball was old Ranger /Seattle BP with Kid Griffey and the rest of the sluggers. We would move from RF to left depending on batter. Rusty gave a ball to son. Class act

Really doubt we are done. Think we add one more pitcher and at least one more hitter. Really think Choo is mostly DH to preserve his health. JD waiting this one out.

I have no problems with one year contracts especially if you have certain call ups on the pipeline. At some point it is good to lock up young players vs signing the over 30 crowd longterm

We once signed Eric Gagne to a one year contract and traded him at the deadline for David Murphy and some other prospects. The Gagne one year signing certainly benefited us longterm. That is the kind of one year deal that can benefit a team long term. Signing a Lance Berkman, not so much.

Random TV related question........ I saw that busby is gone. That should make some people happy. What about Jim Knox? I'm sick of that guy.

Knox is out as well.

Different faces/voices in the media, and was hoping for an upgrade to the actual players on the team but this has been a bit of a disappointing offseason so far. Not much out there available to upgrade the SP and apparently the budget restrictions have JD's hands a bit tied as well, on the position player front.

well that's what these boards are for. If everyone agreed there would be no reason to have them. i just don't have any faith in one year deals because they don't resolve team problems they just delay the problem. And as much as i like Profar and Rua i just think neither is a long time solution and we will be back here next offseason discussing the same holes

exactly. This has the smell of a so-so season for the Rangers with both Seattle and Houston battling for 1st in the west

I just don't get how we can be up against it budget-wise yet though. When I crunched the numbers a few weeks back it looked like we only had about $133 million spent for next year and the talk has been that they would be willing to spend $160 million plus.
