I got my first ball at a Rangers game from Jackie Brown. I was a 12 year old kid standing by the railing in right field during batting practice. Jackie saw me and tossed me a ball. A few minutes later someone hit one over the fence and I got another one. So I got two that day and thought all I had to do was get there that early and I would get a ball. It would be 25 more years before I would get another one despite being there for batting practice well over 100 times during that timespan.

Needless to say I was big Jackie Brown fan from then on.

you went to 100 batting practices and never got a ball?
Yeah, back during the rest of the 70s and 80s I would go 8-10 or more times a year and the vast majority of those times I would go early enough for batting practice. I never got another ball until my son was close to 10 years old. Of course back when I got those two not many folks showed up that early so I had less competition.

The only ball I ever got during the game was when I went to see the Rangers play in Baltimore a few years ago.
