Maybe I am alone on this, but I actually like Manaea on Oakland better. I doubt they would move him at 25, but I would offer TO for him and see where it goes.

I think he has higher value. I agree with you there. I think it's less likely he gets moved though. Has a higher ceiling and floor than Gray does.

Marco Gonzalez for Tyler O'Neill.

Well, there is our big rotation addition.

Hope I'm wrong about not being very enthusiastic about this trade.

Apparently the Mariners are interested in Asdrubal Cabrera...

That's pretty strange.

I have the same feeling you do.

I haven't seen Gonzales pitch, from the little I have read he is injury prone and probably fits in as a back end of the rotation guy. This really feels like Dipoto sold low on O'neill.

Maybe we can give up Lewis for him and just clear all the minor league talent in one day.

In a way, I think Jerry just bet his job on Lewis.

I saw someone compare this trade to the Adam Jones for Bedard trade, lol at least Bedard had a good MLB track record before coming to Seattle.

Also Bedard was super fun to watch. His curveball was something else.

And this whole, "we traded from a place of strength" thing always bugs me. You still have to get equal talent back. I remember us trading a young SS because of strength at the position...Omar for Fermin and Jefferson.

And Asdrubal Cabrera because we had Yuni

Wonder what kind of package it'd take to get (if healthy)Syndergaard/DeGrom + Harvey from the Mets?

Scary to think after the the latest trade.

My perspective is that we did trade from a place of strength, but I don't believe we received someone of equal value. If we would've traded for someone of O'Neill's value, I'd be fine with the trade. O'Neill projects as a good five tool corner outfielder who I could see in an All-Star game, Gonzales projects as a #4 if thinks work out. #3 if you're optimistic.

I have to assume/hope that the Mariners scouting department sees something in Gonzales that we don't see. Because on the surface it doesn't make sense.

Your last sentence is what scares the crap out of me. Dipoto is an analytics guy and analytics says Vogelbach is an all star caliber major league hitter.

Well, even when taking analytics into consideration, I'm unsure what there is to like about Gonzales.

Well, even when taking analytics into consideration, I'm unsure what there is to like about Gonzales.

There are three things I've heard why they like him, he's a lefty, he controls the strike zone and he is under team control until 2023. I've never seen him play so I can't be too hard on him but I just don't get switching prospects when every number says O'Neill is the better prospect. And to me a guy who projects as an every day starter is more valuable than a 4th starter/long relief.
