None of those trades have done anything for the farm system except make it worse and outside of Haniger and Segura haven't done anything for the big club. Making trades just to be making trades isn't ideal IMO for a GM.

Problem is, if they don't somehow add another legitimate starter either by free agency or one of the prospects hit they are going to be in this same situation. While he is controllable he is the one guy who they could get a kings ransom for in a deal.

Even so, Gray has club control until 2019 and at his prime. It's a hell of a deal for the Yankees.

The Yankees had the prospects to spare, but that's still a lot. The A's got a great deal for him.

He is our best pitcher. With that said, he brings back the most value like wazzu31 said. Also remember that as our best pitcher, he brings us little value when he is now 27, gets injured yearly, and has never pitched more than 121 innings in the majors. A team that is loaded with pitching can live with that. A team hurting for pitching cannot rely on that. Trade him for 4 young studs and sign 3 FA quality SP's in the off season. Seems tough thing to do, but we are so deep in a hole we have little choice. Think of 5 years ago we Felix, how did keeping him work out?

And the reverse of that is think back when we did trade our best pitcher (Mark Langston) when we had nothing else. The names Randy Johnson, Holman, and Harris ring any bells? Or Randy for Guillen, Halama, and Freddy Garcia?

The Yankees had the prospects to spare, but that's still a lot. The A's got a great deal for him.

I think it was thievery from Cashman. In the end, that's what they are, prospects and unproven at the MLB level, not to mention 2/3 were/are injured. The guys have high ceiling for sure, but I believe it was a steal for Cashman, especially when they didn't have to give up MLB ready players like Frazier.

So with the starting rotation they have, they aren't going to win anything anytime soon since they made no impact additions at the deadline. So why are they not selling guys like Cruz, Paxton, Seager ect? What's the plan?
