Interesting stat from 2017 I didn't know. M's were 30th (last) in WAR at 1B. So they correct the problem with two rookies (rookie-ish). So Mariners.

That's interesting. I figured that the Valencia/Alonso combo would rank only slightly below average. Their cumulative stat line wasn't too bad.

On the bright side, it doesn't appear he has any connection to Seattle unless that is where his wife is from.

Surprised catching wasn't higher.

Zunino had a 3.3 WAR according to Baseball-Reference and always graded out well defensively. Wonder if the drop-off between him and Ruiz was enough to really drop that value.

I'd also imagine that CF would be graded higher if Dyson was healthy the entire season, although I don't believe base-running ability is very highly valued when calculating WAR.

Maybe had something to do with base running, defense and the situations in which they played well maybe. That's all I can speculate. Maybe Valencia and Alonso only put up decent numbers during garbage time, but I honestly can't remember.

I know Gosewisch had terrible stats in the 11 games he played, but didn't know 11 games was enough to rate at -0.6 below replacement level.

He's a good agent, you have to give him that.

Could've booked his family a flight to Seattle to drive up his value with the real team interested. Would be a smart move on his part. There is a reason why every baseball fan knows his name, he's good at what he does.

He's great at his craft. Not in a respectable way, but a really good agent nonetheless.

Come on now, Boras is a scum bag who doesn't care about the health of the sport nor the players but athletes need scumbags to represent them. I see your point but owners and general managers can be scumwads too.
