You know at my funeral I hope the Mariners can lower me into the ground, just so they can let me down one more time.

I am surprised. I would have taken Ozuna over the AZ deal. Haniger to me still hasn't shown he is a long term answer. I hope he is, but not there yet. Segura is a nice add, but I think if we got Ozuna JD would have done the deal for Cosart who had a heck of a year as well. Who knows, but I think Ozuna is a real special talent that we missed out on.

I just got done with a date and fucked up my knee somehow (I really fucking hope it's not this bad tomorrow morning), and saw your new profile picture and caption.

I'm not sure if I'm sad or find it funny.

I'm only here right now because I didn't get laid, I can hardly put weight on my knee, and figured the pain of being a Mariners fan will outweigh the pain of my knee.

Not Mariners related, but the Phillies signed Carlos Santana for 3 years $60m. Absolutely insane. $20m a year for him? That Ryon Healy trade is looking more and more like a bargain.

So the M's biggest key to success is a 29 year old pitcher who hasn't pitched more than 136 innings in the majors and only pitches every 5 games if healthy? So what is the key for the other 130 games in the best case Paxton scenario?

To play Devil's Advocate, he was on one hell of a run at one point and was actually getting Cy Young consideration. If he can stay healthy (unlikely, I know), he could throw himself right back into that race again. He was really living up to his potential last year.

The drop off from him to the other plebs in our rotation is huge, so I think it is correct to say that he is one of the Mariners biggest keys to success.

1- He pitches in 32 games in a perfect world. That only leaves 130 games to not have your 'biggest key' play in.

2- He had a stretch of 7 games twice where is was Cy Young mentionable compared to actual Cy Young pitchers that do it for 25-28 games.

I know Mariner success stories are not on the same level as other team success stories so I guess M's should enjoy these little victories. Plus, they have more important matters at hand...you know making sure Edgar makes the Hall this year so fans forget what they are actually watching on the field.

The Mariners key to success since 2015:

Ranks 28th in WAR at 8.6 (Kershaw leads at 19.7). That puts him right a head of Robbie Ray and Aaron Nola and just behind Cole Hamels and Rick Porcello. A questionable #1 and a definite not Ace, but M's don't worry about these things because they have 4 #5's to make up for it.

And ranks 107th in innings pitched between 2015-2017.

I'm just saying that the drop off when he misses significant time is huge.

100% agree, but that has a lot more to do with depth than Paxton. Paxton is top notch when healthy and when on, but neither happens enough for him to big the biggest key for a team that still has to play 130-140 games w/o him every year. They might as well say the biggest key to success is if Felix can regain his Cy Young form.

Sorry, not trying to argue because I really don't care anymore. Just bored with too much time on my hands. Have a good one.

Some good baseball minds here and enjoy reading. That said I'm not very excited in the direction we are headed. MONEYBALL -2.0?

That is crazy money imo. Gives you a little different take on the value of the Healy trade.

That seems to be the problem, it seems like moneyball on steroids, except for the accolades moneyball has received no team has ever sniffed a world series appearance using moneyball as the backbone/direction/philsophy of the organization.
