JD knows his contract won't be renewed. He's doing his best to win this season. Next GM will clean house.
See to me you would think he would try and win now but the moves are not winners. If he signed Darvish and another stud SP, I would be in full agreement. I am not really sure what he is trying to do. He hasn't made a single move to shrink that 23 game lead Astros have on us and they aren't dumping players. It is just a headscratcher.

Yea I just don't get why they wont spend at all on a starter. JD has no issues spending on averagish relievers, (Cishek, Scrabble, Niscasio). Although last time we didn't can a desperate GM, we ended up with an anchor contract for Cano and the time before we traded Adam Jones. I get the sense things will be as usual. Jerry will stay one or two years longer then he should and we just wait for the next cycle. Go M's

I would agree in that he failed in not making that deal happen, but I can’t say he failed when considering what Walker was eventually able to net us. It was gonna cost us Walker and others just to land Ozuna. Sometimes the best deal is the one you didn’t make, and the one he did with AZ was probably better than the one that didn’t happen for Ozuna. Only time will tell.

I am surprised. I would have taken Ozuna over the AZ deal. Haniger to me still hasn't shown he is a long term answer. I hope he is, but not there yet. Segura is a nice add, but I think if we got Ozuna JD would have done the deal for Cosart who had a heck of a year as well. Who knows, but I think Ozuna is a real special talent that we missed out on.

Not a bad free pickup.

Mariners selected 1B Mike Ford from the Yankees with the 11th pick in the Rule 5 draft.

This is really good for Ford, who probably wasn't ever going to get a shot with the Yankees. The 25-year-old finished with OPSs of .890 in 2016 and .875 last season, with most of his at-bats coming in Double-A. The Mariners aren't likely to pencil him in for a roster spot, but if he outhits Ryon Healy in spring training, he could make things interesting.

So Marlins get a new ownership group and they sell off everybody in the hopes of going the KC route, yet when Mariners ownership changed rolls they've made 9 million deals to become mediocre?

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Jerry Dipoto came to the Winter Meetings looking to bolster his pitching staff, and the Mariners' general manager headed home on Thursday feeling like it was mission accomplished.

Though the deal won't officially be announced until he passes a physical next week, sources confirmed the club came to agreement on a two-year, $17 million deal with free-agent reliever Juan Nicasio on Wednesday.

Dipoto also made a pair of trades using some of the Mariners' $3.5 million of international pool money to acquire reliever Shawn Armstrong from the Indians and Minor League starter Anthony Misiewicz from the Rays.

With Seattle adding Yankees first baseman Mike Ford in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, the club's 40-man roster will be full once Nicasio officially signs, and Dipoto indicated his major roster additions are likely complete.

Seriously? Is this a joke? We are no better, and probably worse, than last year where we were 23 games back!!!

GM's bottom line
"Like I said at the beginning of the offseason, I never thought it was necessary to find a starter. It was necessary for us to find impact." -- Dipoto, on the willingness to add a quality reliever over a starting pitcher

I actually like Ford as a player. Did some brief research on him when I heard we took a guy in the rule 5. The guy knows how to get on base, he actually walked more than he struck out in the minors, so his OBP is legit, also inflates that .OPS a little. I just don't really see where he fits on the major league roster at the moment but a lot can happen i guess.

very disappointing and likely a huge mistake. We are going to see a lot of bombardments of Marco Gonzalez, Miranda, Moore, freakin Sam Moll etc. (insert garbage name here). Shit, it seems more and more likely Kuma is going to be a big part of the rotation oh wait nevermind he is already hurt LOL....

I said during the season if they didn't make major improvements in the off season I was done. They win, I quit. 40 years is more than enough of this shit. Go Yankees and I mean it. I am bandwagoning for the first time in my life.

I like this move actually. Should push Vogelbach completely out of the picture, although pretty obvious he was already. I like the walk numbers on this guy.

Any time you can get a guy from the best franchise in history it is an upgrade. Go Yankees!

No doubt Ozuna is a special talent, but that's kind of why I said only time will tell. If Haniger can stay healthy and have a full season similar to how he came out of the gates last year it's hard to say an Ozuna deal is better than Segura and Haniger at that point. Maybe he gets Cozart maybe he doesn't. For all we know he trades Gamel for slot money after that deal ;-)

I read it, and still and stunned at his seemingly distain for baseball. He is trying to reinvent the wheel on how to form a rotation. You can take 6 number 5 starters and compress them into 2 roles. I am sticking to my thinking he is his own worst enemy as he thinks he is smarter than every baseball mind. People have different ways of forming teams but at least choose a path that is similar to one that has worked.

"Dipoto feels James Paxton, Felix Hernandez. Mike Leake and Erasmo Ramirez are a solid top four, with Ariel Miranda, Marco Gonzales and Andrew Moore competing for the fifth spot."

:puke:

So when Paxton and Felix go on the DL..... lets see here.....

Leake- Ace.. I like him to be honest but as a 3 or 4 not an ace at all.
Erasmo Ramirez- #2!!!!! just yikes.. He has pitched pretty well in the past and also pretty bad in the past.
Ariel "lead off the game with a fucking monster homer" Miranda- #3
Andrew Moore- #4 to be honest if he pitches like he did in the minors then might turn out ok.
Tyler O'Neill- # oooopps..... Marco Gonzales-#5

Even Felix we don't really know what to expect from him anymore. A healthy Paxton is easily our best pitcher. Lot of question marks in the rotation, not confident at all.
