Does anyone sign Heatley or is he bound for over seas

Depends on how much he wants. Eeveryone thought Grabovski would go overseas as well, but he eventually lowered his price tag and now he will probably get an extension with Washington. Albeit, Heatley is near the end of his career, maybe not the best scenerio to compare it to, but still.

I think that depends on Dany "I'm a fucken all-star" Heatley. Some team would give him a chance at a low salary. Use him as a PP specialist and see if it can grow from there.

If he won't settle for any less than $3 M/year, he's likely headed for the K.

Heatley is a UFA after the season. Can't see the Wild resigning him.

They currently have 17 players signed for $52 M next year. Probably room for Vanek.

I don't think Minny is a team that can spend to the cap on an ongoing basis. There's going to be some concern about locking up so much salary between Parise, Koivu, Pominville, Suter, and potentially Vanek.

If Vanek gets a similar deal to what he's already on, they're looking at approximately $34M in cap space tied up against 5 players. That's Pittsburgh territory and I don't think most people would put Minny's contingent at the same level as Pittsburgh's.

He could take a discount though if he's really willing to go there and have his family where his wife grew up. Gotta believe that will factor into the decision.

:agree:

I'm not saying they necessarily should, but they certainly could.

Well, the Wild just need to draft well - if you draft well and develop you will have good young players who are on their entry level contracts

Wild are going to have to do something to take the next step - they're a second tier team in the West, even after improving their team - they'll need to do something to be able to compete season after season with teams like Anaheim, Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis and San Jose

One downside of the legalization of pot in Colorado is that bloggers think they can get PK Subban from the Habs...Caman.

Parenteau, 30, has been rumored to be on the trading block, with some reports saying the Montreal Canadiens might give up defenseman P.K. Subban for Parenteau and prospect(s) or draft picks. Subban, 24, is a 2014 Team Canada Olympian who is scheduled to become a restricted free agent and will command a salary in excess of $6 million next season and beyond. Roy and the Avs don’t comment on trade rumors but Roy said Parenteau will be back playing for the Avs “soon.”

Pfftt. The Avs should just go after Jeff Petry anyway. He's every bit the player that PK is. :D

those retards who offered him that contract in the first place are still in office in Edmonton :noidea:

Apparently Garth talked to Dreger last night & told him the Isles can & will outbid any team for Vanek. The problem remains it's up to Vanek not the Islanders. I think it's going to take 8 years 8M per to sign him.

I have a question for everyone regarding Kris Letang. I realize he's entering the final part of his contract in which he doesn't have a no trade clause, but would the Penguins really trade him? Orpik & Niskanen are UFA's at the end of the year. I know they could get a ton for him, but I just don't understand why they would even consider moving him. If he's available the Ducks should be on the phone with Shero ASAP!!

I'd be okay with moving him if they get a big enough return. It's a really tough decision though, because it would POTENTIALLY hurt the team for this year. He's actually looked a lot better the past few weeks, and I think it's because he's finally healthy and in a bit of a groove (although he's missed the past few practices for "maintenance" days). The reason I'd be okay with it is because he's going to be making a LOT of money. That deal may actually look good in a few years with the cap projections, but it's going to hamstring the Pens a bit. Trading him would save money, money I'd give to Nisky. Orpik is GONE. No way that he stays. Bortuzzo will replace him. The Pens have so much depth, the temptation to move Letang is great...but it better be a boat load in return. Goligoski got us Neal/Niskanen...so I expect at least that in return ;) (if Shero strikes gold again, have mercy).

I believe that this is the scenario that Fletcher is banking on. Between those coming up from the minors in the past couple of seasons (Granlund, Brodin, etc.) and the occasional lucky trade for a diamond in the rough (Niederreiter), he seems to have a fairly promising core of young talent. Now he has to hope that they pan out quickly - like by next season - & that he can find some money to keep them around long term.

That's why I'm not convinced that he's going to go after any more "big name" players.
