IMHO It was a horrible call.
Even more so given the game situation.
0-2 pitch... 2 outs...potential tying run on base.
In an elimination game no less. Just F'n terrible.
And FTR...I really didn't have a horse in this series.

The Kris Bryant AB was infinitely worse. Man took about 5 balls and got a 3-2 count for his trouble.

I don't think that check swing was all that borderline though... more like a 10/90 thing... the kind of thing where most everyone agrees it's objectively a bad check swing call which is almost impossible to achieve a consensus on.

The swing call was bad. One of the worst swing calls by a 1st/3rd base ump in a long while.

but that isn’t / shouldn’t be the story with that AB.

Why was Flores holding the bat? How can you hang your entire season on Flores against Scherzer? 0-17 lifetime is complete and utter ownage. Sending up a pitcher in that situation would have been a smarter play. Kap really needs to answer why he didn’t PH for Flores there.

Yep...even the HP ump wanted no part of that.
It should've been called a ball.
1B ump blew that one horribly.

I've seen far worse check swings called a ball so many times it's ridiculous.
But never in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs in a tight elimination playoff game.
