It is two sides of the same coin. You need to consider the situation in each case.

Who vilified Bartman? Chicago Cubs fans. Why? They believe he cost them a chance to go to their first World Series since 1945.

Who glorified those two meatheads? New York Yankees fans. Why? They did that to an opposing player, not one of their own.

Blame both incidents on toxic sports culture. Sometimes people forget to realize it is just a game. We learned that in the aftermath of 9/11, but seem to have forgotten it since.

Another thing: If those two Yankee meathead fans would have tried to do that to Mookie Betts at Dodger Stadium (instead of Yankee Stadium), they would most likely have their fart boxes punched through their throats.
