Agreed! At some point going from practice to real live competition has to occur! The problem is 17 regular season games, just as you've pointed out. In the meantime what are we talking about here?...

not playing much in preseason did not seem to effect jd much imo.

Nope. They are real games. They count. You play your best as you know them and adjust.

Yeah games in September count the same in the standings as games in December. I don't get the idea of using them as warm up games. Not saying coaches are purposely doing this but that's the end result of being so cautious (scared) in preseason. I remember when the starters went for 3 quarters in the third preseason and they were much more prepared for the start of the season.
