Demarcus Evans retired six straight and fanned four, just a typical day for him. Evans' second half is the stuff of legend: 32 innings, six walks, 64 strikeouts, .113/.168/.151 opposing line, 0.56 ERA, four wins and nine saves in 19 outings. Evans was named a South Atlantic League Postseason All-Star, an award that does not involve the postseason in any way. Basically, he's the best reliever in the league.

Reid Anderson is lined up to make one more start. Anderson has lasted seven innings in five of his last six starts, quite the accomplishment in low-A. Opponents are hitting .207/.241/.267 in that span.

I don't mind allowing some of our upper level guys a chance to start in the 2019 rotation. It would be great if we could find a starter in free agency who gets overlooked and we can sign him on a short term deal and then flip him at the break. Keep adding pieces for the future.

I would imagine they see it as something that is fluid. It depends a lot on how several prospects develop. It depends some on health(see Matt Harrison and Derek Holland). It depends on what free agents actually want to come here and when. Some of it is just pure luck. You never know how a Cuban defector or a posted Japanese player might change things significantly.

That is very good strategy signing potential SP one year contracts with an option. Going to be a crazy offseason with some big time players going on the market

I kind of want to keep Andrus. He just turned 30 and has plenty left in the tank plus he is a great clubhouse guy and possible mentor.

if AB retires I fully expect Elvis to opt out

Roster moves have to happen to let some of these guys play. Conner S definitely gets what IMO is last shot

2020 is too optimistic I think. We have young pitchers on the way that we won't have to tie up $25-30 million per year on. They just won't be ready to pitch extremely well in a big league environment in 2020. Some won't even be able to pitch in the big leagues until well into the 2020 season or maybe even 2021. Once we get everything in place then we can decide if we have to spend a ton on a top pitcher. If 2 of Ragans, Palumbo, Crouse, and Winn work out then we won't. If only one of them works out we might be able to get by with a #2 or #3 at that point from free agency and those would be a whole lot cheaper. They wouldn't hamstring us for any other moves that we might want to make.

can't speak for the Rangers and JD but absolutely none on my part. take the $22m and sign a quality #1 or 2 and stop wasting money on dregs
