Is it not obvious that signings like Moore, Fister and Colon are stopgaps. Unless we can fill in from within I would expect the same this offseason. But the following season you would hope we would sign someone good who would perform a bit more better than Chan Ho Park. Of course it should be based on need and a desire to compete in 2020. Hopefully players have progressed such that not too many pieces are needed.

I just think attendance will be down quite a bit this coming year. Perhaps some ticket packages that include incentive for 2020 will help
yes it is obvious that they were stopgaps but at some point you have to stop with the stopgaps and add quality. instead of tying up $16+M every season on stopgaps that rarely ever pan out. we have Minor, Jurado, Mendez, ABD, Hutchinson, + others to fill out the rotation and more coming up. why not sign a #1 fill in the rest of the rotation internally and roll with them? and then in 2020 roll in Palumbo, Hernandez, Crouse Winn & Ragans to spring training. from them and probably Jurado & Mendez + the #1 we sign this off-season we have a very high potential rotation in 2020 with the needed plugins at AAA to step in if anyone stumbles.

Nomar Mazara: Mazara has faded in each of his first two Septembers in the major leagues. He slashed .213/.281/.425/.706 as a rookie in 2016 and that was not unexpected given it was the first time he had played the equivalent of a full major league season. But while his batting average went up last year (.237), his OPS (.684) went down.
Without a big final month Mazara is going to be real close to his overall slash line for his first two seasons, which ends with a .742 OPS. That's not an acceptable look for a guy who the Rangers are prepping to hit in the middle of the order. The average OPS in the AL for the two spots in which he has spent the bulk of the season - Nos. 3-4 - are .811 and .791. He began play Wednesday at .765. It's a one-point improvement over where he was on the same date a year ago.
He risks earning a label as an average hitter. The Rangers believe he is much better than that.

Rougned Odor: The Rangers play 16 of their 27 games in September on the road. There remains a huge discrepancy between Odor at home and on the road. Consider this: He began Wednesday hitting .301 with a .908 OPS in Arlington; .236 with a .724 mark on the road.
There are significant differences in his home and road splits throughout his career. He has turned his career around this summer. The step that might turn him into an MVP-caliber player is upping his road performance.

Hard to explain why like Elvis when he suddenly started hitting with power and stopped. Strange things happen. Guess Odor is a huge example, Went from s---t to shineola.

We haven't produced 4 decent starters in the past 20 years, yet we're going to do this all in a few seasons?
We have never had this many quality starting pitching prospects at one time in our history as a team. In fact this far surpasses what we have had in the past 20 years at one time.

We did produce 3 starting pitching prospects just a few years back. Harrison, Holland, and CJ were all developed just a few years apart and all became vital to our WS run in 2011.

Hernandez will probably be ready to start the 2020 season. Most likely, those others will not be ready. Ragans and probably Crouse may be ready in 2021 at the earliest(possibly September 2020 callups). Cole Winn is not even pitching on a minor league team this season. He is mid-2022 at the earliest. Palumbo will probably have to start the 2020 season at AAA and come up at some point during the second half of that season.

You can't just will this thing to go faster. It takes time to build a team the right way.

And you can't keep throwing medical rehabs, level 4 & 5's out there and expect the fans to stay with you. They won't continue to throw $50 to $100 or more into the Rangers coffers game after game year after year if they're not seeing improvement on the field. The team can do what you are suggesting but they also need to show that there is more to the plan than "just wait 2 or 3 or 4 years when our prospects may be ready". And now the Rangers are making players available for trade: wrong message to the fans

No one keeps up with the minors more than Bennie. He has stated his opinion of what he thinks based on extensive research and observation. He has not stated concrete facts but an opinion. To argue the point is ludicrous. He you or anyone else knows what will take place. Wait and see.

Bennie does a great job keeping us informed. Anybody should know all these guys are not going to work out. Like DT said, going to have to wait and see which ones do.

Everyone knows that all you need to do to get a #1 starting pitcher is collect 22-25 million dollars, go to the ace store, and pick your preferred ace off the shelf!!!

Ha. Just don’t think we are in the Ace market until the following offseason. Why waste a good year Aces have shelf life

Hearn may be in the mix next year as well as Hernandez. Do think if all goes as planned Palumbo is a call up at some point next year. Can’t hold roster guys forever

He finished off his development here. Donaldson had used the word "produced". I guess I was using that term loosely in that we did trade for him while he was still a prospect. We didn't draft him, but we did do the work of scouting him and then finishing his development. When his development was finished he did produce better than expected until his unfortunate injury. So I guess it depends on how the term "produce" is defined.

Not to those fans who want a WS and not just an 85 win team.

Besides, we are bringing up position players to this team almost every year to show the fans something. Our pitching is just not ready to make an impact for the next two seasons. There are more position players on the way as well.

The improvement in the club is an actuality, but the bulk of the improvement won't arrive to this level for a couple of years.

Here is a list of 16 of our starting pitching prospects that I think comprise our best. I am not including Matuella or Chi Chi. Of these 16 I believe close to half will become starters in the big leagues.

1. Crouse
2. Winn
3. Ragans
4. Palumbo

5. Hernandez
6. Alexy
7. Phillips
8. Hearn

9. Yerry Rodriguez
10. Richelson Pena
11. Cody
12. White

13. Englert
14. Reid Anderson
15. Jurado
16. Mendez

Of those top 8 I feel we should have 3 of our top 4 rotation spots for the future filled. Of the next 8 I think could easily fill out the bottom 3 spots in a very good rotation if you add in those from the first 8 who don't make it in the top couple of spots in that kind of a rotation.

That doesn't even include guys who we just traded for except Hearn. It also doesn't include guys who we should find in the draft next year when we draft fairly high. It also doesn't include guys pitching now on our Dominican teams and many of those who were just drafted. Even if 8 of the guys in that list of 16 don't make it some of the ones I referred to in this paragraph could replace at least some of them.

There is a lot of room here for injury claiming some of these guys and for some to just fall apart pitching-wise and still have several quality starters left over.

Good list which does not include others projected as relievers.

You don't think they will ramp up Palumbo's innings slowly. He will only get about 50 innings this year. Do you expect them to more than double that amount next year?
